First, a little background. My dad is an electrician who owns his own electrical business. He's been in business for about 6 years or so. He's doing pretty good considering how bad the economy has been over the past few years but he really hasn't had much growth since his business opened. Before opening his own business he worked for one company for 15 or so years. He had wanted to become licensed & open his business for a LONG time. He worked really hard & saved the money up to do it finally. He told his boss...instead of being supportive & encouraging my dad he was a complete jerk about it. He started to pursue builders that he had previously turned down (who he knew my dad would contact) etc. He basically laughed at my dad & said he would never make it...
fast forward 5 years. Yesterday my dad got a call from a builder he's known for a long time. The old boss has been doing this builder's work since my dad's early years with the other guy's company. He has had enough of jerkface & he wants my dad to do his work now! My dad is meeting with him for lunch today. He needs to be able to beat the other guy's price. That won't be a problem...my dad is the nicest guy I've ever met & sometimes he can be a bit too nice. I know how bad he wants this, I just hope he gets it at a fair price. If this works out it will be HUGE for my dad's business. It will pretty much double his business & it will be steady work!
