  normally they start alterations anywhere from the time you get your dress until 8 weeks before the wedding!  Depends on your alterations person!

  My seamstress says that depending how early i want my dress back I should count 4-6 weeks back, but she gets busier as the summer nears. 
  You should plan to have your dress back about 2 weeks before the big day in case your seamstress is running behind this will given them a few days to get whatever work needed done. so.. You shouldn't bring your dress in any later than May 26th but you should really check with your seamstress and see how long they recommend.  Everyone works at a different pace.

  I don't think my seamstress is the norm but she said don't bother coming before 4-6 weeks out because you can lose a lot of weight in that time frame.  She said that if you come in a long time before that and then lose more weight between fittings it will just increase the cost of it.  I only need a bustle and maybe a bit taken in and maybe a small hem unless I can find some shoes I can walk in that are high enough.  If it was more extensive I would be looking sooner rather than later on the alterations.

  I just had my alterations done - but they recommended at least coming in two months before you plan to pick up the dress.

  It really depends on who's doing it, I would think. They may be able to start some alterations, but wait until a few weeks before to finalize them.

  
  

  My dress will be altered in Indiana, where my wedding is. But, I will only be making two trips back before the wedding (not counting the week before it). I'm praying my dress is in when I'm there for Easter...I will probably take it to her then so she can start working on altering the length, since that won't change. I'm guessing in June she will alter the rest of it, and make any changes the week before the wedding. She was able to do a BM dress for me this fall in about 4 days (and it wasn't an easy alteration), so I have faith she will work with me up until the last second! But, she's kind of like a family friend (even invited to our wedding), so my situation might be a little unique.

  We share the same wedding date! :) When i called my seamstress, she said the middle of May.  So I booked an appointment for the 14th of May.
