Lavender Themed Wedding

I very much want to do a lavender themed wedding, but I'm worried that it will be too much.  So far, I've decided on fresh lavender bouquets & boutonnieres, dried lavender throwing rice, lavender cupcakes and lemonade, and decorations here and there made of lavender.  It's an outdoor wedding and I'm having a ceremony arbor that will probably be decorated with lavender and the hanging white "popcorn style" flowers.  What are your thoughts?  If anyone has actually used lavender at their wedding, I'd love to hear your story.

Worries: overpowering smell, dried lavender crumbly & messy, too much lavender.

    I've heard some people are very allergic to it,so I'm not sure the lavender for throwing is a good idea.

    Some people are allergic to lavender.  Others find the scent repulsive.  My daughter gets headaches from the scent.

    I love lavender.  Lavender bath oils, lavender scented eye masks, lavender lotion that I use before bed...that said, I wouldn't have lavender anywhere near my wedding because a good friend of mine is severely allergic.  She and her husband had to go home immediately following another wedding, shower, change and then use another car to go to the reception after the bride decided to have guests throw lavender instead of rice.  Then she got to pay to have her car detailed the next day - and her husband got to take it there for her.

    I'm sorry, but that's like saying not to have a wedding outside in case someone's allergic to bees.  There's probably a 0.5% (or less) chance that a guest would be allergic to lavender, and if that's the case I'm sure they know better than to be around during the lavender toss.  It would be different if my father or sister were allergic to lavender - then I'd think twice about having it in my wedding - but I've never even heard of a lavender allergy before.  I'm not going to worry too much about it.

    What I DID want to know, is if anyone has used it and whether or not they liked the results.

    No it's not like the bee allergy at all.  That much lavender, or even just a bit (toss, in the food) would be a serious issue for someone with a lavendar allergy/sensitivity, because they could only avoid a reaction by not being there.  Someone with a bee sting allergy is only going to have a reaction if they are stung. 

    The chance of being stung is pretty low.  I've only been stung three times in my entire life.  My 75yo father hasn't been stung since he was a kid.  He has a bee sting allergy and has always enjoyed being outside.  He still mows every week, goes on daily walks, and my parents eat most meals outside during the summer. 

    If a bee comes around he simply walks away.  If there was a huge swarm or nest he might choose to leave.  But I suspect that most anyone would choose to not have their wedding outside if it was overrun with bees.

    In your OP, you said, "What are your thoughts?" so people gave you their thoughts.  You also listed some of your own concerns.  We were just adding to that and trying to be helpful, but you're clearly set on the lavender everything, so nevermind.  Good luck and enjoy your wedding!

    I agree with being very careful about over doing the lavender. I am a florist and can not stand the smell...gives me headaches. I had a bride who had it for the guests to toss at them at the end of the ceremony...good thing I was not around at that point in time. the reception hall smelled the same because she had lavend fragranced candles.  I just wonder how many people ate and left because of the fragrance.....
