Never had makeup professionally done before

I have never had my makeup professionally done before, what do I need to know?  Also, I don't typically wear much, so how do I figure out what I need to buy ahead of time?

Thanks!

Where does this person work or are they on their own?  I see you're in NE Ohio (as am I)...  My girl is meeting me at Ulta one day and we're selecting colors and products that will work best.  I'll use the stuff for a few days to make sure my skin handles it well...
  • Hey, I worked at Sephora for a while and did makeup all the time. Save some money and don't do an artist. Spend the money on the products you'll need to use that day - then you'll have some left over! You'll need a few key items I say are tried and true, if I knew your skintone I can hook you up with the best for your look. Are you pale, tan, dark or inbetween those? What's your skin like? Clear, acne or oily? Either way you'll need a foundation, I love Bobbi Brown with her undereye correctos. Then a powder to set it, I like Lorac Illuminating powder (you'll glow), the Naked Palette using the colors, Virgin, Sin & Sidecar with Lancome's new Lancome In Love liner in Chocolate Affair with Tart's blush in Dollface or Nars in Orgasm, Lacome's DollLashes with false lashes (trust me). Then I'd say use whichever color lip you love best but do a lipstick - it'll stay longer. I'm obsessed with Lacome's InLove Balm in Coral Electic - it's stunning on. But as a backup I'd say Lancome's Rouge in Love in Rouge Grenadine or Sweet Embrace. Oh! And I'd use Tarte's brow mousse to fill 'em in. Look for tutorials online on how to apply this. I know it seems like a lot but it's your big day and you'll never have felt so amazing! I hope this helps even if it's one item I'd do the Lorac - really every bride I know says she looks glowing with it! I'm sure you'll look gorgeous!
  • I think you need to meet some professional who can better guide you for color selection that can suits you and the makeup that can make you look stunning. Google the professional in your area ang go through their review. Call them and choose the one who better meet your needs.

  • Mkae sure to do a trial run before the big day! The first tiem my gal triend mine, I HATED it! It's not that she was a bad artist, she just didn't get my style. I'm glad we had plenty of time in-between for me to look up inpiration images, etc. to show her for the "real deal." It worked fantastically.
  • I'm a publicist for a makeup artist so I'm admittedly a little biased, but I would not recommend doing your own makeup for your wedding day, especially if you haven't had a lot of practice. Makeup shows up very differently on photographs and video, and a professional makeup artist knows how to create a look that will work in person and in photos. If there aren't a lot of professional makeup artists in your area that you like I would recommend visiting some department stores, Sephora or Ulta in your area and chatting with makeup artists who work for brands you like, as some of them probably do weddings. If you're not that familiar with different brands look for artists wearing makeup that you like.
  • I agree with some of the other posts.  Your wedding day should be free of any stress.  As a makeup artist I have every single possible product to use on a bride and her bridal party.  So buying the makeup beforehand isn't necessary.  My motto is "You...only better" because I don't believe that makeup should change your look, just enhance what you've already got.  You should look like a more polished and beautiful you. If you don't wear a lot of makeup normally, an experienced artist will do such a good job you won't even look like you're wearing makeup.  You will just look glowing and luminous. So a trial run one to two months in advance is necessary to get the look you want.  Plus this gives you time to find another artist if you don't care for the initial results. I always give a free lipstick to the bride on the wedding day in the color and brand we choose at the trial.  If your artist doesn't do that, then I'd buy that lipstick so you have it for the big day.
