My MIL was arrested on charges of first degree criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and a felony charge of attempt to elude.
We found out from H's coworker who read the article and called to tell us. His family didn't bother to let us know. Given the town where everything took place, it must have happened when they were out at church today. According to the article, MIL was driving with SIL and Nephew in the car. The car was reported to be seen driving across the lawn of city hall. When authorities approached, she allegedly led them on a high speed chase but the deputies backed off when they learned my nephew was in the car. They used those tack strips to stop the car, and then MIL and SIL refused to get out of the car so they used tasers on them.
H called his dad as soon as we read it and all his dad would tell him is that MIL "lost it." She's in custody, I don't know about SIL, but both were being evaluated for mental illness given their strange behavior.
This whole thing is bizarre and completely surreal.
