Hair down with a non-strapless dress?

I'm wondering if it will look OK if I wear my lower-back-length hair down with my dress? It's a sleeveless v-neck - I don't necessarily want to hide the dress, and there are a few updos I like as well, but people always say I look better with my hair down!

    I have a dress with pretty decent straps (not the tiny ones) and am about to wear my almost elbow length hair half up half down. I'm pinning down the upper part so that the veil has somewhere to hold on to. and in my opinion it looks nice that way. I'd suggest to try doing the kind of hairstyle you would like yourself before you go to one of your fittings and take a few pictures. that'll give you a clear idea of what it would look like :)
