  We're having ours at Union League in New Haven. The building is absolutely gorgeous and the food is amazing. They have several different private rooms to choose from depending on your party size and they offer a few different menues as well. Check out their website: http://www.unionleaguecafe.com/

  My sister actually went to a small wedding at Union League and said it was amazing. Definitely look into Union League if you can! I also think that Carmen Anthony Steakhouse is always a crowd pleaser and I've been to a few birthday parties there, that were excellent. My family rents out the back room of Goodfellas for birthdays sometimes, that's always good too! And if you are looking for something less formal - I've been to a private party at "The Spot" - behind Pepe's pizza on Wooster. You may want to look into that, for a more casual setting (I'm doing a casual rehearsal dinner with pizza, so we looked at The Spot too, but chose another italian restaurant closer to our venue) Good luck!

  Barcelona has a private room off the right hand side of their restaurant. I think that would be a great rehersal dinner place. Also, Bespoke has a cool basement area, depending on how many people you are inviting. 
   
  My FI and I are looking into Prime 16 for our rehersal dinner because that is where we had our first date. Unfortunately they do not have a private party room, but we are going to try to figure something out!
