Unique venue on a budget?

I'm looking for a unique, non-traditional wedding venue (reception and ceremony)that isn't too pricey. I am looking in the Greater Toronto Area, but am willing to go as far as a 2 hour drive outside of Toronto to get what I'm looking for. My total budget is $15,000. I could spend more, but would rather put that money towards our mortgage! Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you!

  • Looking at Aug or Nov of this year. Problem is I'm not super flexible as 50% of my bridesmaids live out of province/country and it's not easy for them to get home.
  • November will be cheaper. Call around and ask whentheir winter deals start. It might be November and you can get places for under $100pp everything in.

  • You should check out The Manor. They surprisingly have decent prices and their food is ABSOLUTELY phenomenal! Their salad and stuffed chicken is great!!

  • How many guests? This makes a huge difference.
  • I concur with petite+engineer - the amount of guests make a huge difference as well as they type of reception you want to have - plated, buffet, cocktail reception, etc.  I also agree with Lilipad - you'll get better deals in November than you will in August as August is still considered high season. Also consider having it on a Friday.  I'm having mine in November and we're paying around $95/head including open bar and that's with taxes and gratuites for 150 guests.
  • Cabma, Im a November bride as well!

so far the cheapest place we found was the granit brewery but we passed on it, it was very unique and I think had a lot of possibilities but just wasnt what we had in mind. they are quite flexiable-very friendly and all sorts of good stuff. they have an outdoor area for a ceremony but when we visited a few weeks ago they only had a few saturdays left in October (summer was fully booked) and told us they do not like to do weddings past the middle of november. you could easily get in under buget here-we estimated with an open bar full meal and ceremony we would spend a max of $6500 ( thats on the very high end)

  • in ajax they have a venue called the kinsmen heritage center..you can bring in your own catereing and just about everything else...its a unique spot...vintage like..holds 110 people...you can do ceremony and reception here..all the money you put towards the venue goes to the community..they try to keep this building becasue its a "heritage" building..it has meaning

or "the lake house" in pickering..another unique venue by the lake..you can customize the menu to suit your budget...beautiful location..my wedding is going to take place here june 17th

  • Cabma - try the Waterside Inn in Port Credit; The Rosewater Inn; The Royalton.  As well, the McNeill Room is nice too.  The Paletta Mansion.

It will really depend on how many guests you are planning on having.  How many people are you having?

We want to have a small ceremony for about 35 ppl and then a larger cocktail reception for approx 150 ppl.
  • it might be a little far but we are doing our ceremony and reception at African Lion Safari and it is super cheap and they have just been amazing!

  • Cabma - the check out the McNeill room.  As well, try some restaurants or some boutique hotels like the Drake or the Gladstone Hotel.  They would be able to accommodate that much for a cocktail reception.
