September 2012 Weddings

Invitation wording

FI and I ordered invitations from minted.com and we used the default wording for the invite style we picked:
'We invite you to celebrate the marriage of
Katy Mylastname & Edmond Hislastname
Saturday, the twenty-second of September at four o'clock
Venue,City,State
Reception to follow'

Seeing it on the proof, I'm thinking 'celebrate the marriage of' sounds kind of like we're only having a reception.  Would 'we invite you to witness and celebrate the marriage of' be too clunky, or do you think we should stick with the default, or... something else?

We're fine being positioned as hosts, since we're paying for the wedding.  My preferred line would be 'together with their families... ' but that just wouldn't work for the invitation style.

All suggestions are much appreciated!

Re: Invitation wording

  • What style invitation is it that your first choice of wording doesn't work? Can you post a picture? It might help us help you figure it out if we could see what the invitation looks like.

Yeah, I agree, it sounds a little bit like you are already married. I"d do it like this.

    Miss Katy Lastname
    and
    Mr. Edmond Lastname
request the pleasure of your company
    as they unite in marriage

  • Here's a small version of the proof:

I was thinking that we couldn't rearrange too much, but I guess we could shift the names up, and then move the 'we invite you...' line to below the names and change it to 'request the pleasure...'  We'd have to pay $25 to get another proof, but in the grand scheme, not a big deal, and we're a little under budget in stationary so far.

  • Here is something to consider:
On the line that says " we invite....."  change it to say  'together with their families"
keep the line with your names the same
under that put "invite you to witness and celebrate our marriage"
followed by the rest of your info

It should all fit, you might just have to change your font size. HTH
