Gooms Cake

Hi ladies~

What are you doing for your grooms cake and what vendor are you using?  My FI said he just wants a german chocolate sheet cake from HEB :( I don't know if I should try to class it up a bit or just let him have what he wants, so I wanted to see what everyone else is doing . . . TIA!

    We will be getting the grooms cake from the baker. It is more expensive this way but we feel it is worth it.

    If your fiance wants a German Chocolate Cake from HEB that is fine. HEB makes some nice looking cakes. Plus I think they are pretty tasty.

    I plan on getting one from the baker, too. I want it to be a surprise for my future husband. :)

    Does he want just a plain sheet cake from HEB? Or were you planning on doing something fun? I know for our groom's cake, I want it to be round and have the Chicago Cubs logo on it in icing.

    No, he just wants a plain sheet cake, like the one I bought for his birthday . . . nothing special or any design elements.  The one for his birthday was really delish, but I thought it would be nice to do something more special. Since we're doing Nothing Bundt Cakes for the bridal cake, that isn't an option for the grooms cake.

    We are ordering from a baker, that is going to make it look like a police badge. My fiancee is from Ohio, and they don't even have Groom's cakes there, so he could care less about the cake. So I say, if he is happy with a sheet cake from HEB, then go for it!! It will save you a couple of hundred dollars, and he will still be happy!

    I am going all out on the groom's cake.  This is really the only thing my FH REALLY wants his way on, so I am giving in since I am getting my way with everything else :)  I will hopefully just get from the baker, but originally my FH wanted a huge dragon (like seen here).  The only place that could make this dragon is Crazy Cakes... and it would START at $2800.... and that's not going to happen.. we will not be spending $3000 on a cake!  Instead, he has suggested a castle cake, which will be a lot less expensive, and he can have a plastic dragon purched on top.  Also, our group LOVES cake... so we plan on having a lot.  In addition to the traditional bride's cake and the groom's cake, we'll probably have a 3rd cake themed around Super Mario Bros or Nintendo, since we both collect NES games. If we don't do a 3rd cake, we'll do SMB cookies or cupcakes. I still have a while to figure it out :) Sorry for the long post... :)

    Oops... I forgot to mention that I think a sheet cake will be fine for the groom's cake, if that's what he wants.... or if you want to spruce it up a little, maybe you can add some chocolate covered strawberries or something little like that?  The tuxedo ones are really cute.

    I say if he wants a sheet cake go for it. Though as a disclaimer, taste is way more important to me than appearance.

    Our grooms cake was a german chocolate cake made by Michelle at Michelle's Patisserie.  It was soooo good!

    Im going all out on ours as a surprise to him. He is a die-hard Dallas Cowbys fan so im having a cake made for him that is a Dallas Cowboys helmet!!! A plus it will match our wedding colors. :)
