Help! Non-florida girl is confused! NWR

Okay, so I'm from the midwest so I know what to do in a blizzard or a tornado, but with Emily on it's way, I'm confused. What am I supposed to do in a tropical storm? What do I do in a hurricane?

My guess is that a tropical storm is like a blizzard - so you just only drive if you absolutely must and other than that you don't have to do much. But am I wrong?

Help!

P.S. I live 5 miles from the beach (if that matters).

Flip through this pdf file.  It has a lot of helpful stuff in it.

I wouldn't worry about the TS.  It's just going to be a lot of rain and wind.  Nothing to freak out about.  And yeah, you might want to just hang out inside and try not to drive.  People have a hard enough time driving down here in a summer storm, you don't want to be out there during parts of a TS. :)

I agree with furturemrsfezz! A tropical storm isn't that bad, just a lot of rain and wind. Def. wouldn't drive around. Just stay inside and relax.

Thx. Everything I tried to find was just telling me to get hurricane insurance.
