Cocktail Hour

We are having a brunch reception, do we need to have a cocktail hour and if we should what food and drink should we serve?

A cocktail hour isn't required, but it's often useful.  A lot of brides and grooms will use the time immediately after the ceremony to take pictures while their guests enjoy the cocktail hour.  If you are going to be off taking picture right after your ceremony, you should host something for your guests.  It doesn't necessarily have to be cocktails, punch, lemonade, iced tea would also be nice for brunch.  However, if you can afford it, some brunch-type drinks like mimosas and bloody marys would be nice.

Ditto Sara. Instead of a cheese and veggie platter, you can do a fruit platter and mini quiches and gooey cinnamon rolls. Then have omlettes and waffles and the big stuff for the actual meal.I love brunch so I think it's awesome to take it all the way.

That sounds amazing for a brunch reception! I would definitely have a cocktail hour, I've never been to a wedding without one. The last wedding we went to was at 10:30 and the cocktail hour started at 11:30. It was nice to get something to eat and have a few drinks while we waited for the reception to begin.

I love the idea of the cheese and fruit platter with mini quiches and cinnamon rolls. YUM! For the bar, you could have a few signature cocktails such as mimosas, bellinis, and bloody marys which are more of a brunch cocktail.
