Kansas- Here We Go

FI and I are flying out to Kansas tomorrow for him to candidate for a youth pastor position at a Berean Church.  We got the intinerary today, and it's going to be...intense.  Including roller skating with the youth...neither of us have roller skated since high school.  It's not going to be pretty.  :)

If you remember us in your prayers, please pray for FI's nerves.  He's barely eaten this week and has told me how nervous he is.  It's starting to rub off on me, so we're both hoping our nerves will be calmed tomorrow and the rest of the weekend during this process.

Thank you for your continued prayers since we entered this process in October.  You were some of the first people to know while we tried to figure out when and how to tell our families.  This group has been an unexpected, incredible support system.

ETA: We're not taking our computers with us, and I can't post from my phone or Nook, so I won't be on TK until Monday.  I will post an update when we get back.

Aw, that is so exciting!!!  I will pray that your trip is safe and that God leads your FI the direction he should go!  If he is having issues eating... Clif Bars are FANTASTIC to keep food in the system without messing too much with the body.  Best wishes your way, and many prayers for God's will to become clear to both of you!!!

Thanks so much for the prayers, ladies...and keep them coming!  The family we're staying with is letting us use their computer this weekend, so we're grateful we can check in occasionally on here and not text our fingers to death. :)

The flight out here was delayed by an hour, so last night was a little more rushed than we had planned, but dinner with the elders and their wives was fantastic.  We met today with just the pastor to ask questions and just get to chat with him, and that was great as well.

Tonight we're having dinner with the youth sponsors (teachers) and FI is almost more nervous about that than he is about Sunday, which is understandable considering these are the people who have invested their lives in this group, and now these 2 young kids are coming in to teach and lead their babies.

Also, prayers for Monday would be great.  There's a 70% chance of snow both in the town we're in and in Kansas City, where we're flying out of.  DC is looking ok right now, so as long as we can get out, we should be good to go.

    Thanks again, ladies!!!

Yeah!  Glad you have computer access, and glad you made it safely!  We're expecting some snow where I am too.  It's already reporting flurries on the local news right now but we don't think anything will stick until at least Saturday night.

PRAISE GOD for this opportunity!  I'm so happy that you have the opportunity to experience this with your soon-to-be-husband and hopefully youth pastor!

I don't know if you're connected with other southern baptist churches, but if you ever want to come out to NC, the Yates Baptist Association (our local group of SBC churches in the immediate area) has a website and they always post church job openings.  Our senior pastor (Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Durham NC) is actually retiring at the end of February and we have a committee beginning the search for a new senior pastor.  I'm not sure what the committee's goals are for the new pastor, but I'm sure you could check into if this opportunity doesn't pan out.

Thanks for letting us know about your safe travel.  Keep us updated, we're all praying for you and for your fiancé!

It's been a great weekend so far.  We had breakfast with the youth and some of their parents this orning, which was great, and then met with a few of the young adult couples for lunch.  It's nice to now that if he's called here, there will be couples in the same stage of life we'll be in.

We also met with a rental property manager who is a wonderful Christian lady and was highly recommended by several people in the church.  We looked at a few places, and saw a 1 br apartment that we both liked, and since we don't have kids and aren't planning on them for about a year or so, it will be just fine for us (and the budget.)

We found out yesterday that the elders and the deacons will meet on Monday after we leave, and if they vote positively, they will bring FI's employment in front of the church next Sunday (the 16th).  The church will vote then, and FI should get a call Sunday afternoon.

We're thankful that we have a week to process and pray about this before they would even present him/us with a decision to make.  We love the town and the people...it's cold...but we can learn to deal with that. :)

We're going roller skating with the youth tonight...I think we need prayers now more than ever.  :)

lol, roller skating... you know what, the youth will like you even more if they can "help you up" if you happen to have an accident.  Have fun!!! :-)

Yeah...FI fell flat on his back and took me down with him...we took off our skates pretty soon after that and ended up talking to the kids who would sit down every once in a while.  This morning went great and the students & parents had some great questions.  He's teaching Youth Group tonight, and then after that he can finally sit down and breath. :)
