Reception timeline

Hi Ladies,

I was wondering if you can help me with the reception timeline. I am more looking for a sample of how you did yours. Of course mine would likely be different. I have my cocktail hour at 6 dinner at 7 so I was thinking of arriving at 6:30 to the hall to do the receiving line. I haven't completely finalized what I want to do entirely during the reception. I defintely have the first dance, 6 speeches, bouquet and garter toss, cake cutting and first dance. I am debating whether to do some type of game or not. I'm not sure if people still have games during the reception or not.

so what did your reception timeline look like?

Thanks

*Note the bolded - we didn't arrive back until after 6pm for the cocktail hour - I was there only about 20 minutes by the time I bustled my dress and took a few pictures with DH, but the wedding party headed there ASAP.

*The speeches I allotted 30 minutes....yeah they were over an hour, so just sit back and enjoy the blubbering rambling of your parents!

Thanks for that. I was thinking letting the people know who are doing speeches that they have 5 mins to speak. Is that enough time?
I am not having a band like you so mine will be done and get to the dancing part hopefully by 10 pm.

You can say "5 minutes all you want" - as I did to my family, but no one is going to cut their prepared speech off like the Oscars!  With constant reminder leading up to, then they will remember to keep it short and sweet hopefully!

Oh, and our band played dance music and stuff, so we didn't sit around and wait for them to finish or anything - those were the best parts of the night!  There was DJ'd music between sets.

    1st Course
    Father of the Bride Speech
    2nd Course
    Parents of the Groom Speech
    3rd Course
Maid of Honour and Best Woman Speeches
    4th Course

Haven't done it yet of course, but this is our plan.

    4:00 Ceremony
4:45 (or when ceremony ends) Hors D'ouevres and bar opens

5:45-6pm everyone enters the reception area and is seated, Bridal party introduced and us too. We will do our first dance right away and then go on to a small speech saying welcome and thanks for coming, prayer before the meal.

    6-6:30 we start eating!
Dancing right after dinner whenever that ends.

11pm Cake cutting sweets and savory food table.

    1am leave
