Recommend your netbook / tablet **Repost from TheNest**

I posted this over on TheNest, but wanted to see what you guys thought :o)

So I've decided that I'd like look into getting a smaller netbook or tablet for school and travel. Right now, I've got a 14" lenovo (LOVE LENOVO). The battery is shot (need to get a new one) but it's also a bit larger than what I want to be lugging around campus. It isn't heavy, but add in notebooks and books, it all adds up.

I'm thinking a 10-12 '' screen and preferably under $1000 (preferably WAY under $1000).  I'm also wanting to stay away from Toshiba. I've always had issues with them :o(.

It'll be used like a regular laptop, but mostly for school (note taking and slides) as well as travel. I don't necessarily need a DVD drive, but USB drives are def. needed :o)

DH has been searching around since he's my techy guru and he likes :

Any thoughts / suggestions?

Our silence obviously means we all think you should get a 13" MacBook and call it a day.

Haha I agree with Mary! MacBooks are amazing! My brother just got a pro and I'm obsessed with it (I have the old white one, about 5 years old now, but it still works great). BUT if you don't want to totally conform...you should get and iPad. It's still under $1,000! Wink I just don't think you can go wrong with a Mac...they have great customer service and they really do have genius' at their genius bar! And they're pretty. Win-win-win!

Yeah. . . but I'm all for Lenovo and not up on the whole 'in love' with Mac.
I also need a keyboard with it, so the ipad or any of the new 'flat tablets' are out.

Stupid Best Buy doesnt have ANY of the old school flip tablets . . .hmph

Andrew has a Lenovo tablet that he loves, it's a good computer, I understand the draw.

I would look at weight of a computer instead of size, if you're considering carrying it around all the time.  My old HP weighed like 8 pounds or so, and when I got my 13" Mac it was sooo much lighter, I didn't mind that it wasn't tiny.

Yeah, Chris uses Lenovos at the Big Blue and when my toshiba went BSC on me like 3 years ago, he got me hooked onto Lenovo and I've been biased and in love with them ever since! I've currently got an 14" Ideapad.

Weight is a huge factor, and aside from my battery being shot (less than 20mins of use without being plugged in), it does get a little heavy (while still not as heavy as my beastly toshiba).

The little guys that I was looking at are ranging in around 2lbs - 3lbs and less than an inch thick.

Which tablet does Andrew have? Chris found me one, but its around 1500 :( and right now, I just can't spend the money on it.

I'm not sure which one he has, but it was pricey.  I think it cost more than my Mac.  He's had it about 4 years now.

Check out Dell's mini Inspiron 10.  It has a 10 inch screen, no CD/DVD but lots of USB connections.  I bought mine for about $400, but I'm sure they're cheaper now.  I hardly ever use it any more and use my desktop instead, but its very helpful for school and travel!
