Taking wedding dress on plane

What is the best way to take a wedding dress on a plane? I've heard that some people just put it in the overhead or put it in the closet on the plane or to roll it up and put it in a carryon suitcase. Just wondering if one is better than another. My dress material is silk organza so I worry about it ripping or something and I'm short so when I carry my dress its kind of difficult. So I was thinking rolling it up and putting it into a small carryon suitcase might be best but dont know if there are any downsides to doing it that way?

  • You can always ask if they have room in the first class closet but they won't guarantee you space.  If they can't accommodate that then you can fold the dress bag in half and place it on top of the bags in the overhead compartment.

I put mine in a hang up bag that folded up over the hanger.  In all, the bag was about 3 feet long.  It wasn't bad at all to carry and bring in the plane.

Some people will say to call the airline, but that won't do much.  Once you get to the plane and the crew is there (desk people can't help), politely ask if you can hang up your dress in a closet.  The stewardesses will coo over your dress and either say "Of course!"" or "We don't have a closet, but lay it over the bags in the overheads."

I laid mine down and everything was just fine.  Have your dress steamed once you get where you are going.
