Venue Blues

So I'm new posting but I've been lurking for a while just to see what's out there. Wedding is set for August 2012 and we're trying to be early on choosing a venue so we can get everything else going. There are so many gorgeous reception venues in our area but I can't ask my parents to spend 5k+ on a venue plus catering, since my sister's wedding is the summer before. The only places I have found that fit the budget are not that great, especially with Newport right around the corner.

I know it's a long shot, but any ideas on a reasonable and of course nice looking spot for our celebration? We're having 120 guests or less.

where did you want to get married? Newport is a little on the expensive side but you can't beat the scenery. Eastons Beach Rotunda isn't too bad depending on the day you choose. Its right on the beach and its a large round room overlooking the ocean and cliff walk. Its really pretty. Heres the link if you wanted to take a peek

you can have your ceremony there as well. the only problem is you have to find your own caterer and you should make sure that the caterer has worked there before since theres NO kitchen. But other then thats, its nice. HTH! =)

What about the Meeting House in Tiverton, R.I? It has a very rustic and historical charm. I believe the rates are really reasonable too. You do need to get your own caterer. Consider a Friday or Sunday night to save on cost or off season Saturday rate like in April or in late Fall. There are ways to cut cost. As for catering, maybe a buffet or meal served family style will save you more money.

It doesn't matter to either one of us what town or city it takes place in. Logistical issues like out-of-town travelers are making us want a Saturday and also August since I'm a student and otherwise we would have to postpone the honeymoon. I guess something will have to give, but thanks for the info - both places were not on any sites or google searches I have looked at so I really appreciate the input!

I second The Meeting House but I'm biased because it's my venue. :) It's not really that popular around the board, but I think it's a hidden gem - cheaper than Newport at $2,500 for a Saturday and you need a tent. It's so gorgeous there. You can do a ceremony outside or set up the Meeting House like a church, which is what we're doing. Then dinner is under a tent and dancing is back in the Meeting House. I have collected lots of pics if you're interested in seeing some.

We also looked at the Rotunda in Newport but it was a little big for what we needed. We also loved Kinney Bungalow in Narragansett and its fees are very reasonable there as well. We also looked into the Towers, the Casino and also the botanical gardens in Roger Williams Park, as I'm a Providence resident and get a discount. We also looked at Slater Mill, which wasn't quite what we wanted, and the barn at Mt. Hope Farm, which was at the top of our price limit.

The good thing about 2012 is that you have plenty of time to save so there's no reason you couldn't supplement your parents' contribution and end up with the wedding you've dreamed of. GL!

I don't know why I didn't mention this before, but you could check out Crystal Lake Golf Club (my venue). Its right on a lake and its very beautiful. They do the caterering for you and Tracy the wedding coordinator is amazing! They are very cheap, the fees for the room and ceremony sight are under $1000. Might be worth it to check it out ! =)

I would ditto Kinney Bungalow and the Towers for a less expensive, near the beach, pretty venue.

My venue - which I'm in love with - is the International Yacht Restoration School. It's in Newport, it's a big rustic warehouse and it is right on the water. It's also far cheaper than many other newport venues.

This was second  on my list, I saw some beautiful shots of the venue on Faith Dugan's site. Love the place where they have the cocktail hour, very nautica feel with the sailboats.
