Jewelry Advice

Hey everyone.

I am having my bridesmaids wear apple-red dresses from David's Bridal. The guys will also be wearing apple red vests, except my groom who is wearing a gold vest. The bouquets are sunflowers and yellow gerber daisies, and some other smaller more delicate yellow flowers. The boutineers for the guys will be yellow and I will probably wear a yellow flower in my hair. The girls are wearing gold shoes, which they picked out themselves and love.

I was thinking about buying them necklaces for presents for the girls and maybe something on the side (not earrings because my MOH doesn't have piecred ears). I really, really was hoping to find some pretty delicate necklaces with yellow in them (faux amber, yellow topaz, tiger eye, etc.) and I am having HORRIBLE luck finding something that isn't CASUAL, tied with leather, tacky, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas?!

If you're purchasing them the jewelry to wear at the wedding, it's not a gift, it's part of their attire. My advice, let them pick out their own jewelry to wear the day of and get them a gift of appreciation for standing up with you at your wedding. Don't get them matchy, matchy gifts. Shop for them like it's their birthdays. This will save you a bit of $ and you'll get them something they will love. It doesn't all need to be the same gift. In fact it's better that they're different because it shows you took the time to shop for them individually.

Thanks for replying. I had been hoping to find similar but different pieces of jewelry (coordinating but not matching, if that makes sense). And it WOULD be a gift because I would be paying for it, and they paid for their own dresses and shoes. I don't think it would be their only gift (though that seems to be pretty normal, I got jewelry to wear that day as a gift in both weddings I was in). I had been planning on suggesting they wear their own jewelry until I had the idea of the yellow-stoned jewelry and I just thought it would be so stunning, if only I could find pieces as pretty as they are.

Matching jewelry isn't a gift, it's how you want your bridesmaids to look. For the record, I couldn't tell you what jewelry my bridesmaids wore without looking at the close-ups, and even then it's hard to tell. Hell, one of my girls asked me which pair of earrings I preferred as we were getting ready, and I forgot which one I chose about five seconds later.

Well it wouldn't be the only thing I got them... and I wanted unique pieces that didn't necessarily match. I just was wondering if anyone had advice on where I might find such things?

I don't think you're quite getting what Aerin and I are saying but I'm just going to let that go.

Look on Overstock, Macy's (especially when they have their one day sales), JC Penny, or Kohls.

I get what you're saying about it not being a gift. I absolutely do, it's just not the advice I was looking for, with all respect and gratefulness for your reply. Gift or not, this is something I want to look into for them to wear. If I could find something as pretty and unique as they are, I'd be pretty thrilled. I hadn't even considered Overstock, so I'm going to check there right now. Thanks so much

Etsy.com is fantastic! They have a ton of unique pieces, and you can even search by color. Plus, you are usually supporting an artist and many times sellers are more than willing to customize pieces or give you discounts if you're buying for a few girls. Let me know what you find!

Thanks! I checked out Etsy earlier at work and didn't have much luck, but I might not have been working the most effective way.

I guess I am in the minority here, but I think getting the BM's a piece of jewelry they can wear on the wedding day and again, is a gift. I have picked out necklaces for all my BM's.. they are simple white gold circle and it's something I honestly think they'll wear in the future.

Liz - I think the dress looks great w/o a necklace. I know one BM does not have pierced ears, but what if you found her a pair of similar ones (to the pierced) that were clip ons? Just a thought!

LOL, now I am having a crisis trying to decide if they should get necklaces.

For myself, personally, I am skipping the necklace and going to try to find a pair of absolutely fabulous earrings and leave it at that. I've never been able to feel comfortable wearrings earrings and necklace at the same time, and I thought a bare front could look nice with my dress, which is a portrait neckline.

Oh, what to do, what to do.

I think that with the halter neckline, necklaces will be uncomfortable and will clutter their chest. Maybe buy them each a nice bracelet (a gold cuff would look great) and earrings for the girls who have their ears pierced.

This may not be what you had in mind, I just figured I'd throw out some suggestions. If you decide to do a bracelet, wait until almost fall if you have time. All the stores will be putting out more gold tones then, and in that case you could check Kohl's and NY&Co. because they have great selections sometimes.

I agree with the PP...I don't think you necessarily need a necklace with that dress. Because that style halter does not leave a lot of open skin in front, a necklace might be too much. I do like the look of bigger earrings with a halter dress, though.
