Reception ideas for big football fan?

Hi ladies,
My fiance is a huge Pats fans. I'm wondering if anyone has any great ideas of what I could do for him at the reception to recognize this, beyond a groom's cake. I have not ruled out getting him a groom's cake but I'm not sure how practical that is to do, since for one thing he is not the biggest sweet eater and another, if it doesn't get eaten the cake may very well be a waste, since we are leaving early the next morning for our HM.
If anyone has seen anything at another reception or has a great idea, I would love to hear it. Thanks!

  • Even if you don't do a groom's cake you could do a grooms table with snacks and things that he likes along with Pats memorabilia. I've seen this done before. But if you're afraid of the cake not being eaten, just make it a little smaller and your wedding cake can be a few less servings too and your guests can pick which one they want. We're going to do the groom's cake in a different flavor than wedding cake.

Other than groom's table - You could get a Pats garter and wear it for him. Or get him cuff links. You could name your tables after Pat's players. Get a Patriot's wedding cake topper. Play the Patriot's fight song (if they have one). Incorporate it into the favors (cookies with frosting in the Pat's colors?).

  • I'm not sure, but I would post on the boston board too.

I'm sure they have great ideas!

  • Ok.. I am a Giants Fan and a Yankee fan but I am going to give you my ideas anyway! Smile

I saw on one of the boards instead of a guest book they are getting a Jersey with their last name on it and having the guests sign the jersey and then frame it. ( i think i might do that)

I have also see when being introduced the bride and groom come out in the jerseys.

If you do the garter toss, you can put a Patriots garter around a football for him to throw.  I saw that on Pinterest and thought it was an awesome idea.  (Just found it: http://pinterest.com/pin/108227197265426434/)

I also love the idea of using a jersey for your guestbook.

I really, really, REALLY wanted a baseball themed wedding, but FI and I like completely different teams so it wouldn't have worked.  I seriously dreamed of walking down the aisle to "Enter Sandman."  LOL.  I figured I still could, but my dad nixed that idea quickly...

I love that! That would be really cute. The jersey guest book idea is good too!

Haha, don't worry~ I'm not really a football fan anyway, it's him (and really his family, too) so I appreciate your sharing your ideas. I like the Jersey signing idea- very cute.

<div>My cousin and his wife are big football fans, and they had the garter toss on a football. I think it was just a plain garter even but it was so cute, and the guys actually seemed to enjoy trying to catch it. (Just wanted to let you know that it works in real life! Not everything I've seen on Pinterest does, haha!)</div>

    pinterest, obvi.

  • How about an ice sculpture with the PATS logo?  FI are doing a Yankees one (we're both huge fans).

  • For our guest book we had a signature plate created with my FI in a football jersey and me in my wedding dress.  We were able to reach out to have it custom made for his favorite team.

The site we bought it from is:

I'm also doing the garder based off his favorite team and found someone on Esty that makes garders for almost every team:

  • lots of good ideas!!

We are having a lot of Ohio State related things at our wedding.
I made a cake topper, I will be getting a garter, making cufflinks... we do have a groom's cake as well, but we factored those "pieces" into the overall guest count so both cakes get eaten.

Our place cards are going to be little jerseys...

I am getting the alumni band to come and play at the reception as well. That is a part that FI doesn't know about... hehehe

and our colors, of course, are the team colors.

I love the plate idea but then your FI did have to see you in your wedding dress beforehand, is that correct? I've been making an effort to keep my info about my dress from my FI.

You could have it be a caricature and not a 'real' picture

Our venue is charging $350 but I don't know if you could get it cheaper if you went directly to the company that does it.
