Louisiana-New Orleans

Wedding Venues

Help. I think I have looked at every place possible in New Orleans (City Park, Rosy's, etc). I am a OOT bride that goes back home to NOLA often. I need suggestions on "unique" and "out-of-the-box" venues for 200-300 guests. Any recommendation would be helpfyl.

I am in NYC and I just went home this past weekend to look at venues.  I actually really liked the House of Blues.  It's very inexpensive and the wedding coordinator seems very flexible and nice.  She is also a knottie.  You might also want to check out Race and Religious.  Personally, I thought that part of the warehouse district was too far out, but the space itself is very unique and a great backdrop for photos.  The Foundry also looks like a great space.eta: A lot of people like Latrobe's on Royal.  The space was a little dark for me and I've heard they can be quite expensive.  The girl there told me that they are book on Saturdays through June 2012.

I'm still undecided on my venue, but am leaning towards doing something more traditional like the Royal Orleans or Royal Sonesta.

Unfortunately, some of the out of the box venues are a little bit kitschier, so it just depends what you want.  There is also the Wax Museum and Mardi Gras World.  I haven't been to either, but know they both do weddings.

I have looked into Race & Religious, but from pictures, it looks like a house in the inside. Is it just separate rooms that people can mingle in or is there a room where the whole reception can be at?

There are actually two old houses.  I think its meant for people to mostly mingle outdoors.

It gets tough if you want one big room that the reception can be at, especially for something that size.  Originally I really wanted to get married at a restaurant like Brennan's, but all of the rooms are small and broken up.  I'm going to have around 300 people as well and it kind of felt like we'd all be going to a different wedding.  I had the same complaint about Muriel's as well.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are going to be that many unique venues that have one large space that will accomodate that many people.  I really want to get married in the Quarter, so I know my options are limited.

The Chicory is absolutely gorgeous and very New Orleans.  Michele was very flexible with pricing and very accommodating.

I am going to ignore the "unique" criteria and just list places I know that fit that number and that are wonderful (some are "unique", some aren't)

    Muriel's
    Audubon Tea Room
Audubon Cajun Swamp Ballroom (at alligator exhibit at the Zoo)
    Audubon Aquarium
    Audubon Golf Club
    Board of Trade
    The Wax Museum
    The Court of Two Sisters
    Antoine's

Places that I know are large, but don't know if they are good:
    Mulatte's
    Pat O'Brien's River View Room
    The Federal Ballroom

And of course there are old standby's like the Southern Oaks Plantation (that I think are a bit cliche to be honest)

The Wax Museum is a diferent place that still has a New Orleans feel. It is a big room that can definitely fit the amount of people that you are looking for and the room is really nice and Beth is great to work with.

I had my wedding at The Foundry and absolutely loved it!  I found the owners amazing to work with, really responsive and very reasonably priced.  PM me if you want more details!

I wanted the same thing, and fell in love with the room above the Wax Museum when I saw it- the prices also can't be beat. We'll have about 200pp and I think it could definitely hold more. Beth is great to work with also and there is a lot included in the price. You should look into it! You should also try Pat O's on the River, I never got a chance to see it but it sounds like a cool venue also with reasonable prices.

I have some pics I took of the Wax, message me and I can send them to you.
