TheCakeGuys cake - Help - I'm confused!

Hi all, I'm a lurker here, don't post much but i do try to read the posts between juggling work and wedding planning!  i'm getting the cake guys to do our cake (their sweet inspiration package) and i have 130 guests.

we originally only thought about 100 guests would come (but then somehow the guest list got a mind of its own) and now we're at 130.  i originally signed the '75 person contract' because it said the brides cake would serve 92 and the grooms cake would serve 50.  i thought that was way more cake than we need for just 100 people.  but now we're at 130 people, so now i'm scared that won't be enough.  the
'100 person contract' serves 112 for the brides cake and 70 for the grooms cake, equaling about 182 servings.  is that too much?  trying to save money (already spending more than what we intended!) so wondering if upgrading to the '100 guests' contracts is needed.  we're serving a full dinner at the reception.

i know alot of you have used the cake guys for your cakes, so just wondering if the cake slices were pretty small or generous, and from past experience, how many guests you had and which contract you went with.

thank you!

    Honestly,
I would ask them. They make the cakes and they'll probably be able to give you the best advice on what you need.

That being said, I think 182 servings for 130 people is kind of a lot if everyone is only going to get one piece.

I agree with Crash.  Ask TCG -- they will be able to give you a better idea.  It can also depend on if you are serving alcohol, what time of day your wedding is taking place, if your families are really big into sweets or not, etc.  My family LOVES sweets so we're getting enough cake to easily serve each guest one piece of the bride's cake and then we'll have another 75 servings of groom's cake available (115 guests total).

Thanks for your help. I did ask them if the original contract was sufficient for the increased guest count and they said that it just all depends on how big the slices are cut. But then how am i supposed to know how big the slices the kitchen staff at the hotel normally serves? Are people supposed to get two slices of cake (bride and groom) normally? When I figure how much to serve, should I only factor in the servings from the brides cake and anything from the grooms cake is just 'extra'? Sigh. Every time I think about it, I get even more confused. :-(

<div>I would ask your venue how big they usually cut the slices. </div><div>

Every wedding I've been to, you just file into a line at the cake table and they ask you what you want.  Some people chose to just take one slice from either the bride or groom's cake while others took a slice of each.  It really just depends on your guests, what else your serving, etc.

Personally, I'd rather err on the side of caution and have too much cake than have too little.  But again, my family loves their sweets!

I don't have my contract in front of me but I went with The Cake Guys' suggestion for how much cake we would need -- and we had a TON left over.  Granted we had the opposite problem--less guests than we thought.  But I swear my cake would have served 200 people and we only had 110 (planning for 140).  We took the entire middle tier home untouched and everyone got two pieces (1 white/1 chocolate).

You do not need 182 servings for 130 people.  Unless you want a ton left over, I would stick with the package you have.

Can you up the size of the wedding cake but not the groom's cake?

I used TCG recently, had the 100 person contract and had 130 guests. I had SO MUCH cake leftover it was disturbing...I think that the 75 person contract for 130 ppl would be sufficient. Some people won't eat cake (blasphemy), some just want a little bit, and the rest are too chicken to go back for a third piece. Your venue could cut normal sized pieces and be just fine I think. We could have given everyone a piece of both and had cake leftover TBH.

I think Courtski's venue cut very generous slices too, and I am pretty sure a lot from our table got multiple slices.

    You should be fine.

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

Thank you guys for all the replies!  OK, now I feel better.  I think I'll stick with the 75 person contract.  My family is not really into sweets either (we always have tons of leftover cake at parties).  One option was I could forgo the groom's cake and just put the 50 slices from that into the brides cake.  But then my fiance was pretty excited about his cake that he could put a football helmet on top, so I didn't want to get rid of that either.

Thanks so much for all the replies - yall rock!

</div><div>This is GREAT to know! I am doing the package for 100 and was worried about it being enough for 120 ppl. This is a great relief :)
