Question about invites?

Ok so were almost done making our invitations, they are very simple (pic below), except we are printing our font in fuscia, with our names in orange, and changing the ribbon to fuscia as well. We love the way it looks, still slightly formal but fun.

So heres our dilemma... Addressing them. We know they should be handwritten but are you ladies doing calligraphy or having someone do them? We are staying as low budget as possible with these as most of our guests have already booked and this is really just a formality and reminder to some. So we reLly don't want to spend a lot on addressing them. Calligraphers can be pricey and although my handwriting is neat, it's been a really long time since I've giving a crack at calligraphy...

Help please! Lol

Re: Question about invites?

  • I'm having a friend of my mom's who has really nice handwriting do them. Personally I don't think calligraphy is super necessary anymore, and I would never side eye someone printing directly on the envelope. Why pay money for calligraphy when there's so many  fonts that will look nice these days?

I remember reading a bio once that had a really good tutorial on how to do it on your own via a printer and some tracing it but I don't remember where it was unfortunately :(

    Cute invites BTW!
  • Love the invites! Where we ordered ours from offered to print all our addresses for like $5 so we went with that. It was easy but if we didn't have that option I would have just written it with a coloured pen/marker.

  • I was a bad wedding person.  I printed on clear labels and stuck those on.  And for anyone who thinks it's less work than handwriting, let me tell you about the 4 hours and 2 packs of labels I went through cos my stupid printer kept printing in the wrong place.  I think I almost threw it out the window!!  :)

  • Everyone has made fun of me all my life for having 'computer printing', since like grade 5, so this is one of those times it actually pays off lol
  • I'll probably do the semi-printed method harr was referencing.

You print on your envelopes in light gray and then you go over it with a marker so it looks handwritten but has more even spacing and less chance of errors.

  • My invitation designer is printing the addresses on the envelopes for me for free since I booked her so early on! Booked her in January, wedding is I'm December. Can't believe it's already July and my invites are about to get printed! Can't wait to see the finished product.

  • I will most likely try to find some nice classic font, and print on clear labels :)

  • I must have been a bad wedding person too... I printed mine... BUT I also had non-traditional invites and my addresses were on shipping tags ...

I didn't hear anyone that was offended because I didn't handwrite them.

If I had traditional envelopes I would have gone with the printing in light grey and tracing idea.

  • I will be printing because I don't have nice hand writing and I know whn I have gotten wedding invited I don't remember what they did or even really paid attention. Guess it all depends how "formal" you want to be.

  • I printed my envelopes in a very very light grey (I couldn't see them without a small lamp right beside the envelopes) and then traced them.  They look handwritten because you can see where my hand was shaking, etc. as well as the ink impression, but I didn't have to learn calligraphy or hire someone to do it.  It took quite some time, but they are beautiful.
  • I have really nice penmanship when I have a really good pen and the time to sit and just write so i am planning to handwrite them myself in cursive writing.

  • We're doing lables!

If you're trying to stay in budget, have someone with good handwriting address them for you; caligraphy is too pricey, IMO!

  • Thanks ladies for all your help, I do have neat handwriting so I will prob just end up writing them, or if I'm being too OCD, just print labels. I don't know why I'm stressing over this when nothing about this wedding is "traditional" lol. Thanks again! :)

  • Those invites are super cute!! They're going to look great in color!

I printed mine on labels. I downloaded a calligraphy font. I couldn't imagine paying someone a couple of dollars per invite to write a name and address.
