Back from our July 10-17 trip to Duck. Wedding was awesome! The best choice we could have made for our daughter's wedding. A lifelong dream fulfilled, really at a very affordable price when you take the vacation portion out of it.
Wedding date: Wed July 13- having on Wednesday allowed enough time for prewedding preparations and parties and still allowed enough time after to clean up and relax and enjoy the beach for a few days after.
We did not have a true wedding coordinator. It was fun for me and my daughter to get it all together, although stressful at times. Did have tons of help from our friends, so if you don't have this or don't want to bother your guests with it, a coordinator will be your best bet. We could not have done it without the help of our friends- decorating beach andoutside area, helping with food, drinks, coolers etc. But everyone really had a great time.
Venue: Realtor- Paramount Destination
House - Jewel of the Isle on Duck Landing Ln.
Beautiful house,
great venue meeting all our needs. Housed the wedding party,
Able to have welcoming pizza party, rehearsal dinner, and reception
on the grounds. And a great room perfect for the bridal party to
get ready in comfortably. Yard big enough for a 40x60 tent. Allows
125 guests (we had 120)
Rentals: Used Metro Rentals- tent, chairs, linens, dance floor. Very accomodating
when needing to change numbers on tables and chairs. It was very hot
that day and the only time I have ever been to the beach with no breeze.
Called them about fans for the tent and they had them there and up before
we could make it back outside. Also missing 2 tablecloths which were
promptly delivered.
Appetizers: Tommy's Market inDuck. Peel and eat shrimp (which we had an
abundance of), delicious crabcakes, veggie and cheese and fruit trays
Lucinda at the market was very helpful in helping me decide on a menu
and pricing was in line with other places for appetizers. We did pickup
and setup ourselves.
Food: High Cotton BarBQ. If you are looking for good, simple, abundant food
for your dollar this is your place. For about $13 per person we had pulled
pork, roasted chicken, mac and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, plastic
utensils and plates, napkins. the food was delicious and everyone was
happy. This was for delivery and initial setup. Little extra you can get full
service along with tea and soft drinks. Came recommended from other
sites and was a good choice for us, and we had tons of left overs.
Flowers: OBXweddingflowers.com can find her on facebook. She did a
wonderful job at an affordable price. Can check out some of her work on
facebook. My daughters flowers are the latest sunflower bouquets
Wine/Beer: The Wine Specialists on 158 in Kitty Hawk. Competitive prices on
kegs of beer, and a wide variety of wine which she offers a discount
on if bought by the case. Free delivery and use of tubs which is a big
help. Also can buy ice which they will deliver.
TheKnot store: We bought a variety of items from the knot, all of good quality
and if you watch for sales or clearance at very good prices, Items
purchased- cake and knife set, napkins, champagn flutes, monogrammed
beach towels among some other things
Makeup, Hair, and cake were all done by family and friends. Adding to the
specialness of the day
Photography: Outer Banks Productions- have not seen the proofs yet,but
can't wait to
Officiant- Last but certainly not least, was their officiant Rev. Jay Bowman
I cannot say enough nice things about this man. He definately enjoys
what he is doing , marrying people on the beach of the place on earth.
His personable ways, caring attitude, and passion for his work is evident
in every look, every word, every action. He truly believes in what he is
doing. And we were so very lucky to have found him. Would recommend
him to anyone. He truly was the best find of this wedding and I hope at
some point to witness another wedding he officiates. It was that special.
I wish all of you future OBX brides, just the magic we felt on the beach that day. It was a true dream come true.
