Rehearsal Dinner Invite - 2 locations

I searched through this board but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so I'm hoping maybe someone has some advice! :)

We are having our rehearsal at 11AM and our dinner at 5PM. Our ceremony location couldn't do a later time due to another wedding, we couldn't choose another date because of out of town wedding party members, and my fiance's parents didn't want to do lunch they wanted dinner.

Everyone that is invited to the rehearsal is also invited to the dinner, it is fine by us if WP dates go to the rehearsal since most are out of town. I just can't figure out how to word the invitations to reflect the 11AM rehearsal and 5PM dinner....any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Invite - 2 locations

  • What we did was make the invitation mainly for the RD. We listed the time of the dinner, location, and who was hosting it. Then at the bottom of the invitation, we said "Rehearsal will take place at ____time at ______location." Because your rehearsal will be in the same place as the ceremony and the ceremony address is on your wedding invitation, I don't think you need to list that address again.

  • I've been invited to rehearsal dinners, but never to a rehearsal.  I've received the printed invitation for the dinner but been told personally what time the rehearsal was and whatever else I needed to know about that.

I would have invitations made just for the dinner, then personally contact everyone who needs to actually be at the rehearsal and tell them where/when/etc.

We're hosting a dinner the night before our wedding.  We're inviting our siblings, children and grandchildren.  The children and grandchildren will be a part of the wedding ceremony, so I'll contact each of them personally to tell them the details of the rehearsal, etc.  Then, I'm sending printed invitations to the dinner [with response cards so guest can RSVP and make their menu selections].

  • In our case, we only told the WP when the rehearsal was, and then the invite that was sent out for the RD had the time and location of the RD.  I'm not sure if you are inviting more than WP and parents, but if you are then do you want all those people at the rehearsal as well?  Because if not then I would just have the actual dinner info on the invite, and do an email/word of mouth for the few that need to be at the rehearsal.
  • I would send an invitation for the dinner, but enclose an information card for those that I'm asking to come to the rehearsal.

But I'd tread lightly here.  Asking people to come to a rehearsal at 11 and then a dinner later is a lot to ask.  Don't be upset if people don't go to both.
  • That's a large gap.  We had the same problem, our venue was only available at 10 am and our RD was at 7pm.  We worked it out with the restaurant to use their space for our rehearsal instead because we knew it just wasn't feasible. So the WP came at 6 and dinner was at 7.  Maybe you could do something similar.
