Just Engaged: Advice on Planners and Caterers?

Hi everyone!  My FI just got enaged the week before last.  We are both getting used to our changes in titles but are SO excited.

The night he proposed we started kicking around dates.  We settled on October 20th, 2012.  As luck would have it, Ault Park was available and we booked it the next day.  I had read that some brides have had trouble dealing with PPE, but so far, so good.  They've been very helpful.

The package they offer includes a "day of" coordinator, but I think that his/her main purpose is to allow us acess to the interior of the pavillion, etc.

I'm looking to hire a planner, since my mother (and the rest of my family) are back East, as is my M.O.H.  Not that planning with my FMIL doesn't sound fun...but I need some help!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, I've scheduled tastings with Jeff Thomas and Funkys, since we're looking to spend most of the budget on a great, custom menu.

Feedback?

Congrats to all and thanks for the help!

  • Also, there may be a better place to type this, but I cannot find it at the moment.  How the heck do I change my handle on here?  I don't want it to be my email address!

  • Congrats and Welcome!  Unfortunately, you can't change your name without creating a new profile.  I'd do that soon, possibly with a new email.  Some people find it handy to create an email especially for wedding related subjects (otherwise you might get spammed to death).

For planners, I would recommend Cincy Event Planning http://cincyeventplanning.com/
I do http://i-do-weddings.com/ or Tracey Reese traceyereese@aol.com.  You picked a beautiful venue at a great time of year.  I've heard that sometimes brides from the same weekend will share tent rental costs, but don't quote me on that.  I've been around for a while and things have changed ;)

    Again, welcome and happy planning!
  • We have used Funky's catering for many work events. The food is great and they are really easy to work with. Not sure on wedding stuff, though. Good Luck and Congrats!

I contacted CincyEvents yesterday, but have not yet heard back from them.  I'll give I Do a call today!

    Thanks again!

Welcome aboard!  Visit us often - don't be shy.

I'd strongly recommend Michelle at Blue Dahlia as your planner.  She's fairly new to the business so is very reasonable.  Read her reviews on Wedding Channel; they'll blow you away.  My officiant also married Michelle and said she was the most organized bride she'd ever experienced.  Pretty high praise.

Best of luck - don't be a stranger.  Let us know how your plans progress...and have fun!
  • I'm shocked that Ault Park was available... I thought they booked out 2 years in advance! Great work! I'm going to call them, lol.
  • check out lindsey dyan events for a wedding planner. she's fab. www.lindseydyanevents.com. also jmesa photography for a photog. jmesaphotography.com. good luck. so jealous of ault park!
  • I'm using Blue Dahlia. Michelle is amazing and reasonable! For caterers look at Cuisine East West. He is extremely affordable and can do really high end eclectic foods and comfort foods. great range! And he could be as low as $10/person depending on what you want!
  • Thanks for all the tips, ladies!  :)
