Venue ideas... please help!

So.... My boyfriend proposed to me a couple weeks ago, and we're actually hoping to have the wedding this coming fall! I was never one of those girls that always dreamed of my wedding, and the proposal took me by complete (but pleasant) surprise, so now I don't even know where to begin! We were looking at the Phoenixville Foundry and the Manor House at Prophecy.  Both are a little pricey, but we're willing to make it work if need be.  Does anyone else have any other good ideas for venues? Or whether the Foundry is better than the Manor or vice-versa?
Happy planning! Laughing

Re: Venue ideas... please help!

  • Personally I found Robert Fair - Prophecy - rather unpleasant when I met him.  And I've been to a wedding that he catered and was not at all impressed. As a matter of fact they ran out of food.  Crazy!  On the other hand the Foundry is gorgeous and you have a choice of caterers.  Robert Ryan caters there and they're great. Why don't you check out Columbia Station too.  It's been re-done and is really beautiful and there is no venue fee.  I also looked at  Manor House in Horsham which was beautiful and I was just at a wedding at Glen Foerd on the Delaware River which was gorgeous.  Good luck.  I live in the Trappe area if you need any help with local vendors.
  • The foundry was booked all summer/fall when we looked so that might be tough.  I went to a wedding at Columbia Station and was very beautiful!!

  • Do you know how many guests you will have? We are having ours down the street from Prophecy at The Highlands in Fort Washington - they have a rental fee and then you can pick your own caterer (this isn't necessarily more affordable but it is an option.)
  • Look into Columbia Station in Phoenixville.  We wanted to book there so badly, but they didn't have our date.  Also check out the Blair Mill Inn in Horsham.

  • Thanks so much everyone! I will definitely look into those places.  We are very flexible with dates (even a friday or sunday is fine with us) so I'm sure we can make it work, I just need to find the perfect place.  I fell in love with the Foundry but not the price, so we'll see.  You have all been so helpful, thank you!
  • I am getting married at the Foundry .... it is gorgeous but very pricey once you start adding everything up!  You may have a hard time getting a date there too but maybe you can get some kind of deal if there is a cancellation?
