Menu - No Choice?

So we met with our venue this week and the price per entree was a little heftier than we thought for beef and if you offer a choice of both beef and chicken.   It is going to be better on our budget if we only offer chicken.   They have some chicken options that look delicious, and they offer vegetarian at no extra charge, but will it be a problem just to serve chicken and not offer beef?  

I know personally at a wedding I sometimes pick beef and don't like it, and chicken is the safe bet anyway but will some people be upset?

    I've never complained when a no-choice plated dinner was served. At my coworkers wedding the entre was chickedn stuffed with spinach and goatcheese with potatoes and fresh vegetables that were in season at the time. It was some of the best wedding food I've ever had.

    we actually had the same thought process... we decided to go with chicken/fish / vegetarian! we were going to have steak but everyone likes their steak cooked different ways so no matter how it is prepared we knew people wouldn't be happy < my family likes well done fi's family likes medium rare> so we decided to skip the aggravation of some people saying it was too well done and others saying it was under cooked! and cutting the steak from one of our 2 options will end up saving us $$$  < i think steak was $10 more pp >

    Chicken is always the safest choice.  We ended up going with a buffet but the first menu plan we were looking it also was one choice for the entree (which we would've opted for a chicken dish).

    If it helps your budget, then only have the chicken and veggie option.  People should just be happy to have a good meal.  I would not bat an eye if I didn't get a steak at a wedding.  Are you thinking of leaving the meal choice off of the rsvp card or just including those two options? 
    We are kind of at that position right now.  The chicken (& veggie) option is less than the one we want of steak and fish (& veggie of course).  We really want those choices (a blending of families, Iowa & Cali! ha), but since our list has blossomed a little bit, the chicken option would get us to stay closer to our budget if we get a 100% yes rate....however, there is no way to know that until the counts come in so we have to decide before.

    I think so long as you cover a vegetarian option (which you have!) serving chicken without any other choices is fine.

    I was at a wedding on May 5th where everyone was served just chicken.  It was fine, no one cared.  And the chicken was good!

    With our buffet, we were thinking of having both chicken and beef but we can save a ton by just offering a chicken with a pasta/vegetarian option. I don't think anyone will care that we aren't having beef, too.

    We're having a beef, a fish, and a vegetarian option. It didn't matter which of the entree selections we picked from the list, the package price was the same regardless of what we picked. I think it's fine that you're not offering beef.

    We are doing Chicken and Fish.  Beef is always so hard and especially in large quantities.  We will be serving beef in the appetizers during cocktail hour

    I have never been to a formal wedding with a plated dinner so I'm no help. My wedding will be the most formal one I've ever been to...and we're doing a buffet with pulled bbq baked beans potato salad and slaw. Which is not formal in the least and gives no choice. I wouldn't think anything of only having one choice.

    We are having a buffet and will only have chicken as the protein.  We are having a small wedding on a tight budget, so I hope its ok for everyone! There will be lots of sides to go along with it.

    Thanks, Ladies!  This definitely puts me at ease, and my parents as well since they are helping out with the dinner cost.  Looks like I will be taste testing some chicken very soon!
