Gift Regestry

My FI and I have been together for 11 years and are finally getting married this summer, I feel sort of silly registering for gifts when we're already living together ( I don't need a new blender).  Were starting to build a new home and thought about about asking for help with this thru gift cards/cash but can't figure out how to say this tactfully.  any suggestions?

    You can't, really, save via word of mouth when people ask where you are registered.

    Make a small registry...think of anything you might like to upgrade?  New towels? Better pots and pans?

    There's no tactful way to ask for cash.

    You can skip registering and decline any showers.  If anyone asks, you direct your mom or whoever to respond "they didn't register anywhere, but they're saving up for a down payment."  Those comfortable giving cash will.

    I've lived with FI for most of our 7 1/2 year relationship, so we don't really NEED much.  However, after reading the registry board, I got some ideas for things we wanted, like stuff for the Wii, new sheets and towels, and small kitchen appliances.  We're also going to register for things we'd like to replace, like our broken printer and our leaky air mattress.  I'd advise you to read the beginner posts on the registry board and you'll probably change your mind about registering.

    Since Lowe's and Home Depot don't have registries anymore, you could do a universal registry through amazon.com or myregistry.com. We have a fixer-upper, so we used myregistry.com and included things like faucets, light fixtures, ceiling fans, a shower surround, insulation, painting supplies, door knobs and such. You could also include things like yard equipment (if you don't already have it) like a lawn mower, weed trimmer, snow blower, a rake, shovel, garden hose, etc. etc.

    You might also think about registering at Sears - think power tools and big appliances (fridge, stove, freezer, washer/dryer). HTH!

    Theres no tactful way to ask for cash. I would recommend doing a small registery. People will definitely still give you cash.
