That's a bummer, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with the Vista suite, and with Cashman.  I'm hoping Todd might be able to take some family pics in VoTF during my allotted photo time afterwards (not even sure if that's allowed) so I can have a backup to get some of the formal family shots.

On the bright side, I'd say you have one fantastic reason to speak of your wedding day again...you married the love of your life, no?

Oh sweetie I am so sorry you had to go through that.
I don't understand how a hotel can give away your room if you were there hours before offical checkin time? I would be making a huge complaint about it!

The cashman photos thing is really bad as well but at least they gave you a refund eventhough it wont replace not having nice ceremony photos.

I'm sorry you had such a rough time but I hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in vegas with your friends and family.

So why did Mandalay Bay give the vista suite away? Did they have record or your reservation? Or are they saying no reservation existed? I go on their web-site every few weeks just cause I'm a weirdo and double check my dates are correct and that the reservation is still there and print out copies of everything.

I'm not even going to bother with Cashman, I'll use them for the ceremony (valley of the falls) cause I have to but I'm not going to bother with the hour of photography afterwards that comes with the package I'd much rather have Todd shoot family photos for us afterwards. I'll just collect my six or whatever I get with the package from Cashman and then be done with them.

I hope you came away from Vegas with some good memories...and hey new husband!

I am sooooooooooooo sorry to hear about that horrible experience at MB.  How can they give it away knowing you have a signed contract?!  I would have told them to tell the people they gave it to that they made a BIG mistake and to correct it right away.  I would rip them a new one.  Especially if it was my wedding.  Ugh, I am so sorry.

I'm 100% sure that you will get AWESOME pictures from Todd.  iIs track record is phenomenal.  And shame on Cashman for having a rookie!  Seriously on someones wedding day.  I would be writing bad reviews on every website I could thnk of.  Ugh, I'm mad for you.  Sooooo sorry.
I'm stuck with Imagine for CP and I have an extra hour that comes with my package.  I have to use them since my p's are paying so much for the ceremony package.  Just a way for them to make money.

You married your best friend and said "i do" in front of your family and friends.  They can't take that away from you.

    Congrats again Mrs!

I don't think there is a signed contract.  It's a hotel room reservation and hotels seem to be able to get away with saying that you are not guaranteed the room type you reserved.  So the MB may have given the suite to a high roller or some other player.  That guy's money was more important to them than whatever money Ricki was paying them.  The same goes for the early check in.  They can say, hey you checked in at 3.  That's early.  Check in is usually 4.  They have all kinds of loopholes.  Now if there WAS a contract (my hotel room type and rate IS in my contract), then Ricki can totally sue them for breach.

Ricki, I bet everything was beautiful.  You were beautiful, your reception was pefect and the cupcakes no matter what the sprinkle colors, were probably hits too.  I also bet that Todd got pictures of your being beautiful.  I look forward to seeing your pretty face.  Please post pics as soon as you get them.

Just remember, you got the most important thing that day. You married the man you love! Can't wait to see the pictures. Congrats!

I don't disagree with the positive thoughts.  The vengeful side of me suggests mailing your review to a few executives at Mandalay so they know what their employees and vendor (Cashman) did to your wedding day.  Without your feedback, you're just another person who got bumped to a different room.

+1 to that, I always get the feeling at bad places in Vegas that the powers that be never even know.  We're doing mandalay too but I wrote a letter to Venetian about how bad they sucked and I also wrote a letter to Bellagio's head of group events letting him know how awesome the person we worked with was even though we didn't end up going with them; at least on the second one I got a thank you reply, Venetian probably didn't care even at the executive level lol.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Mandalay Bay and the photos.  But like PP said you married your best friend, I'm sure you looked great.

Like Meatauditor said, send your review to both vendors so they know how they messed up your day and that it didn't have to happen that way at all.  I hope you have the names of every person you dealt with so you can name them personally.

Congrats!!! Enjoy the rest of your trip!!!

I really hope you do all this! I don't find it to be vengeful, someone needs to be held accountable for such mistreatment.

I work at a hotel as an HR manager and this can easily happen. It is so WRONG!!! They never guarentee a room type, which makes it almost impossible to feel at ease!! Also, the way early check-in works is that they will get you in early, only if the suite was NOT occupied before. If someone was in the night before, they will not clean it until at least noon. So for everyone on this board that is planning an in-suite reception, I would book your suite the NIGHT before so you can be sure to get access to your room (so if you wedding is on Saturday, book it for Friday night too) Then, you don't have to worry about getting in so late the day of, and if a disaster happens, you have a day to prepare. NEVER trust that you will be able to check-in early. Housekeeping and the Front Office are usually enemies at these resorts and have no communication. For those of you who may encounter problems with room check-in at any properties, I would always ask to speak to the Front Office Manager or Director of Front Office Operations. The Front Desk agents have NO power and cannot reverse any decisions. I would also wrtie on comments when you are making the reservation that you are have a wedding, so they see that pop up on their screen when they are about to give it away to someone else.

If anyone has any questions about how a hotel normally operates--- let me know.

SO sorry to hear this happened Ricki!

Not vengeful at all!  They should know there exists a very popular wedding board that reviews their services.

OP - I'm so very sorry to read about your MB experience.  But like the PPs wrote, the most important thing is that you are married!

    HI Everyone!
Haven't been on The Knot for a while, but it reminded me to check in because my one year anniversary is coming up next weekend and we're going to back to Vegas to celebrate! Can't Wait!
ANYWAY.......I read this post and just had to comment because the whole Vista thing happened to me as well!
I went to check in on the day of my wedding only to find out that they had given my room away to some VIP High Roller or something. I was devastated, and felt like crying! The lady at the front desk seemed like she really didnt care, and was only willing to offer me the Media Suite instead. I had to ask to speak to a Manager who someone managed to "unlock" one of the Vista suites and finally eneded up giving it to me. I was very happy after that, but when I made it up to the Vista it reeked of cigarrete and was not very well cleaned. I had to ask for housekeeping to come back up!
So needless to say I can totally relate to RickiRich. So sorry this happened to you, and like everyone said, I hope the rest of your day made up for it like it did for me.

So to everyone else, I would deffinetely take the advice of booking your Vista suite the night before to ensure that you get that room for your wedding date. Theres nothing like feeling that all your planning will need to be changed last minute due to someone else's carelesness. You should not have to deal with this type of disaster on your wedding dat.

ALSO, don't get me started with Cashman. I wasn't impressed at all with our pictures either! They missed our first kiss completely which is the ONE picture I wanted them to get in the first place. The photographer was also kind of an ass, I was not happy with them at all.

Todd saved the day and his pictures turned out Wonderful! You'll feel much better once you see those. :D

That makes sense...I don't know how it works so I thought there might have ebeen a contract since they do the HOTEL thing.  I would still write a review like PP said so that your heard.  I've sent things to CP about bad scouting trips, reviews on photog.,etc.  I want to make sure they know what is going on, I hope it helps.  Yes please also post pictures when they are available.

THANK YOU Ricki for posting. I am also have an insuite and this just put the fire under my butt to do a few things. I actually double checked my wedding contract to make sure the suite was included. I am not sure if it will make a idfference if something actually misfires and they give it away, but I feel better knowing it's in there. I also called up MB  to get my confirmation # since in looking thorugh all of my emails, my WC never sent me one. That freaked me out.

Like PPs said, I am sure you looked amaing and that Todd captured you in all of your bridal glory :)

Sorry for what happened to you:(  Stress you did not need, but as PP stated, even with the bad you got to marry the love of your life!  Can't wait to see Todd's pics!

I am a little confused though, how can they never guarantee your room type if you paid that certain usually high amount?  So I assume if they "gave away" your suite they'd give you one comparable in price?  But what if they have zero left, then what, do they refund your money for the suite and say sorry only regular room for you...?

Ie., for our L Suite the regular rate for a Fri. was $1,029 (we didn't pay that with the coupon codes), but if they gave it away are they going to give me a new room that costs the same?  We have it the night before too, but who knows it could happen for two nights too, especially in a busy month like ours...

@Sara - it's not uncommon for hotels to actually oversell their inventory - kind of like the airlines overbooking seats. They always depend on people canceling, no-shows, etc. On that rare occasion when it doesn't work out, they have to find something comparable at another hotel to "walk" the guest to. Not sure how often this happens in Vegas but it definitely happens in other resort towns.

This happened to me in Vegas once... I was at MGM with a regular room.  They sold out and upgraded me to the Marquee (sp) Suite.  Luckily for me, it was an upgrade.

Thanks for the review, Ricki!  I'm sorry it didn't go well, but you married your BF :)
  • edited December 2011
I'm a Las Vegas groom (read lots of stuff online here but never posted) who found your review very similar to what happened to us. We got married on May 22nd 2011 at the Flamingo but stayed at Mandalay Bay. We went to check into our Vista Suite on May 21st to be told that they had none of those left. They offered us adjoining rooms instead. I was there with my fiance and future mother in law and told the check in clerk that that option wouldn't work for us. She got the supervisor (total nightmare lady) who told us there was nothing they could do. We explained that we were getting married the next day at noon and wanted to set our room up in advance. We had 9 girls getting their hair done in the suite on the wedding morning starting at noon. I let it slip that we were having people up to our room for a post reception party and was told that we hadn't book the room to have a party and that they don't allow parties in their rooms. Well in less then 2 minutes I told that lady I was done speaking with her and I wanted to speak to the hotel manager. The manager of hotel operations came out and was very nice. She put us in an E suite over at THE hotel and comped our first night. The suite at THe hotel was huge (2000 sq feet) and actualy worked out better for us. It had a bar and a huge room for our guests to mingle in. Also the whole room is wired with speakers and we were able to hook our iPOD up. We also had bought decorations and planned them out for the Vista Suite so we had to make some changes.
Anyways, just wanted to post our experience. My wife and I read your review and couldn't believe that the same thing had happened to another couple that weekend.
