Flip Flops or Heels?

Our 'beach' wedding is on a rooftop terrace over looking the beach below so since we're not in the sand, I'm not limited to flip flops as I'd originally thought. I've always loved heels and ended up finding the perfect pair to go with my dress and as luck would have it they were 70% off and are so darn comfortable!

My dilemma is whether I should wear the heels or just go with flip flops in the spirit of a beach wedding :-S FH said out of the blue that he thinks I should wear the new heels because I guess I've said a few times how much I love them.

Pro Heels: I love them, I feel the look is more polished, and it's a significant alterations savings since I won't have to shorten the dress to be wearable with flip flops.

Pro Flip Flops: Comfort and practicality, no one will see my feet, I guess it makes sense with the 'beach theme'.

Geez...I don't know...undecided...what would you girls do?

  • I love heels too. You're lucky that you found a pair that you absolutely love and are comfortable. I think heels will really complete your look and you won't have to make changes to your dress. I would wear the heels!
  • Heels.  Absolutely.

  • Heels, definitely :-)

  • If I were you I would wear heels for the ceremony and dinner and then flip flops for the dance :)

  • Definitely heels.

  • Maybe it doesn't have to be mutually exclusive.  Why not have the best of both worlds and wear heels but have a pair of cute flip flops to wear for at least part of the reception?  At one wedding I attended the bride and ladies in the wedding party changed their dress shoes for flip flops during the reception, I thought it was very cute and I'm planning on doing it myself.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I agree with the "both" sentiment.

  • Heels will make you stand straighter, make your legs feel awesome and make you feel more elegant. I'm getting married on a beach patio, too. The heels are for the ceremony. When it gets to party time, I'm kicking them off and putting on some padded flip flop wedges. I really think the dress flows better with some extra height from the heels!

  • I agree with the both statement as well.  Heels for ceremony, flip flops for reception.  :)

Agreed. Wear your special heels that you love so much and when you're dancing be comfy in flip flops.

  • I say both.  Heels and then flip flops if your feet start hurting or if you take pictures on the beach.

  • Heels. You love them, right?  Then change to flip-flops for reception.

I'm getting married on the beach and going barefoot for ceremony - converses for reception!

  • I also agree with having the best of both worlds, heels for ceremony and dinner, flip flops for dancing.  :)

  • I say heels! It sounds like you love them and are trying to convince yourself you should wear flip flops just because you should on you a beach.  But I do like the idea of changing into them later if that could work.

  • have you done your dress fittings yet? if you did your fitting in heels, i would suggest staying in them or run the risk of tripping over your hem (if you are wearing a long dress)

YES! Exactly! I feel like I should wear flip flops but I'm a heels girl all the way! Okay good I'm glad the sentiment seems to be universal! Now I won't feel stupid/dumb/impractical...I like the points about standing up straighter, completing the look, feeling more elegant, and also it's just good financial sense lol saves money not shortening the dress! I also have the perfect pair of flip flops for after the ceremony - best of both worlds. Thanks ladies!!
  • you could always wear heels for ceremony, pics and dances then after dinner change into flip flops. thats what i plan on doing.. i know my feet will start hurting after a few hours so ill just switch when im ready. :)
  • Whichever you like best.

However, when I'm at the beach, I take my flip flops off because I don't like sand flinging up my legs.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • I'm in the same boat you are with the shoes. I love heels but want to go with the beach look of barefoot and flip flops. BUT! I do love me some heels! :)
