Makeup Artist & Hair? Aveda?

I am having a hard time finding a makeup artist and hairdresser with prices that aren't outrageous to me. The vendors I've looked at usually either cost more than I hoped to spend or they require that additional people are done-up. Has anyone used the Aveda Institute? Are there any other suggestions for less expensive options? I would like to have a trial run and I would like to spend less than $300.

I go to the Aveda Institute every once in a while for haircuts. Love it, but that's cause my hair is super simple. Just a trim. With that being said, I would never choose to go there on my wedding day. First, I don't know if you can choose your stylist/artist. Also, the person you have your trial with may graduate in between the trial and the wedding. The biggest concern I have, though, is timing. I've been there for 3 hours before for a simple trim. I always keep my schedule way open cause I never know if it'll be 45 minues or hours.

However, I have a friend who was on a very tight budget when she got married, and it was really her only option. Her hair came out beautifully and timing wasn't a problem. So I suppose if saving some $ is worth the unknown, then maybe take that chance. I'd definitely tell them that it's for a wedding and timing is important, though. But I wouldn't go there for mine.

I agree with PP, you can't pick the level of stylist you get at the Aveda Institute, so you may get a new student or one that's got more experience. Its been a long time, but I used to get my hair colored and cut there in college and it wasn't uncommon to be there for hours. This may be different for bridal hair and makeup, but I would definitely check into it before making an appointment.

I would check Regency, it's a smaller school, I go there and have always been able to request what a wanted(a more experienced student, or the same student as last time) And because it's smaller I've never been there for hours like I used to be when I went to Aveda. Good luck!

Thank you all for your help! I scheduled an appointment at another salon. It costs a bit more than I'd like to spend, but that seems to be how most things go with a wedding!
