Gift to FI

Are you and your FI exchanging gifts at the rehearsal dinner.  My family tells me this is traditinal and you always get your FI something... but I have no idea what to get him.  Some ideas that family has told me are a nice pair of cuff links but he NEVER will wear a tux or suit again after the wedding.  So I would hate to waste my money of that when it will never get worn.

Re: Gift to FI

  • FI and I talked about it and he said the gift we are "exchanging" is our wedding bands, so no gifts for us.

I wouldn't get him something wedding related for a gift.  A nice picture of the both of you, a gift card to his favorite place along with something personal, special pictures, etc. are all great gifts.  Go for something that you know he will like and will be meaningful.
  • We agreed to not buy each other anything. I don't get the point... "Hey congrats you're getting married, Funny thing, I AM TOO! Here's a present!" That's weird IMO.

  • I was thinking the same thing, kinda silly to me! We are already spending all this money on this wedding then we have to spend MORE money to buy gifts!

I thought about getting him this Blues (st louis hockey team) tumbler that he really wants and put some golfballs in the cup.  That will only cost me about $30 so no big deal!

  • It's a tradition thing; if you want to do it, go for it, if you don't, no biggie.
I'm giving FI that pair of socks with the cute "cold feet" label, and I will include a little book of my sassy photos. I never felt like I had to get him something, I just wanted to do something cute for him. I also made him some cufflinks that I will have someone deliver the day of. It's just thoughtful touches because I want him to feel like it's his day too despite most of the focus being on moi ;)

Similar to mama, I am giving FI "cold feet" socks the night before.  I also am doing a photobook of my boudoir pics.  The book I am giving him on our wedding night though (gotta make sure he shows up and signs the license before he gets the almost nudie pics haha).  I plan on having one of my BM place the gift on the bed of our wedding night suite during the reception.  It'll be a box that contains the book and a piece of lingerie I wore for the shoot that he has never seen before.  We agreed that the rings and paying for our wedding is enough of a gift but these are just fun things I wanted to do for him.

I totally agree!  FI and I decided not to exchange gifts either.  Of course he ended up finding something small to get me but he couldn't wait so he gave it to me already..haha.  He's a cop so he got me a wife's badge.  It's so cute!  Unless I can think of something meaningful and small for him I don't think I'm getting him anything.
  • I love the cold feet socks idea, but this might be a dumb question... where do I find them? Or is it just a brand?

The labels like mama has you can make yourself or find on Etsy.  It's just a paper wrapped around the socks like the label you see in stores when you buy them.  I got socks that had it embroidered.  These are from England but they were the ones that looked like the best quality and were reasonably priced.  They did arrive quicker than I thought (and if you order soon we have plenty of time).  And, the quality is very good.  I was willing to eat the money if they ended up being itchy just to be funny but they are really soft socks!

  • This is what I did:

Just a cheap pair of socks and I designed a label to print off at home.
    Easy peasy!

I'm buying him a  tie for the wedding only because I found one that I think he'd really like. I will probably give it to him a while before the wedding so he knows he doens't have to buy another one.

It's this tie but in different colors.
I am not expecting a gift. As a PP said, our rings are really our gifts to each other. We're paying for them individually, they're not coming out of the wedding account.

  • oooh celtic that is a lovely tie!! there are so many funky designs on etsy that i love and i know FI would too but he never really wears ties (other than to weddings/funerals).

  • I doubt we'll exchange gifts with each other. I like the idea of the rings being the gifts.

  • We haven't really discussed it but I am going to get FI tickets to a Chicago Bears game because neither of us have ever gone. I wanted to get him something fun we could do together after we are married.
