Where to book in Italy

My fiance and I have decided to go to Italy for our honeymoon in May of 2013.  I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of who to book with.  Right now we are just looking at general information, since it is so far off, but we would like to get an idea of cost sooner rather than later.  Any suggetions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Re: Where to book in Italy

  • Go to the Amalfi coast! My parents went there for an anniversary trip a while back (can't remember the hotel now, but I know it was in Amalfi). They said it was beautiful.
  • I highly recommend Costa Rei, which is on the island of Sardegna in Italy. It's off the west coast, and it's absolutely AMAZING. I actually spent 6 months living in Cagliari, the capital of the Island, and made frequent weekend beach trips to Costa Rei. The main beach is absolutely amazing, with white sand beaches and crystal clear turquoise warm water. The locals are so friendly, and there's were always night market's going on. If never stayed in hotels there, but I've heard theres some really nice ones, or look into renting a villa, they're very well priced! Especially in the shoulder seasons, like May. Also, if you're wanting to take an excursion to the mainland, you can take an overnight ferry to Civitavecchia from Cagliari for a little under 60 euro. From Civitavecchia, Rome is only a very cheap (about 10$!!) very fast train ride away.

  • it's a country with a TON to see and do. since you have so much time i suggest heading to your local library or bookstore and getting a bunch of books and reading through them and prioritizing what interests you and what doesn't.

  • Everywhere in Italy is AMAZING. You can't go wrong! However, based on my personal experience, Cinque Terre is BEAUTIFUL and relaxing. Venice and Rome are lots of fun. Have you considered a Mediterranean cruise?
  • I vote for a week in Rome, with one day in Venice.

I have been to Rome 3 times now and still can't get enough.  I have been to Venice 3 times too and always felt that one day was enought to feed the pigeons, shop and ride in a gondola.

Rome is the best city on earth and I say that as someone who isn't Italian in the least.
  • It really depends on what you are looking for. I lived in Roma for three years and can say that it is amazing. But my favorite city in the entire country is Venice. It is so romantic and so splendid to spend time there just wandering the vie. May would be a potentially good time to go as well.
  • Florence was our favorite city on our recent Italy trip. I'd highy recommend Rick Steve's guide. We took it and it never steared us wrong!
