Tent at Olowalu

Hi all,

First, just wanted to say thanks so much for all of your input as I plan my wedding at Olowalu this November.  You are all immensly helpful!

Did any of you forgo the tent?  I've been interviewing WC's and one highly recommends and the other said I could put a 25% deposit down and decide the day before depending on the weather.

Also, anyone have just a day of coordinator?  The more I interview WC's, caterers and other vendor I feel pretty confident in booking vendors but I don't want ANY stress the day of!

We are getting married in December and will be getting a tent. Main reason is even though Olowalu is considered dry, we are having a fairly large wedding (for a DW), so what will those 100+ people do IF it happens to shower or rain? They all can't fit on the lanai and the interior of the house is off limits...

So I say if you are having a fairly smaller wedding (where all the guest can fit on the lanai if it rains or if there is a passing shower), I say you can forego the tent. Putting down a deposit and deciding the day before could also be a good option as well. But do not forego the tent if you have a larger wedding... HTH!

Our wedding is in June, and I kicked the idea of a tent back and forth and just decided to go without.  My reasoning, we wanted an outdoor tent to be under the stars and though a clear top tent would work, I like not having a structure over our heads.  Good Luck!
  • If you can swing it, I would go with a tent.  We had one over the area that we ate with round paper lanterns and paper star laterns and it ended up being the perfect touch to make the reception feel more formal.  We still danced under the stars and since we got a clear top tent it honestly didn't really feel like we were in any kind of structure, but it did finish off the look of our reception perfectly.

Do I think a tent is really necessary?  No, but I chose to be safe from any potential weather issue and in the end I loved having the tent!

  • I asked my WC if a tent was needed for Olowalu and she said that usually one isn't needed unless the Kona Winds come in and then she would let me know the day before and we could get a tent last minute.

We also spoke with Donna the property manager and she said that there has only been one wedding that she remembers there where it really rained for a long time and that if there is any rain then it is usually a passing shower but that means Rainbows so....

A little late here, but I would totally get a tent! Novemeber is the beginning of the rainy season and after the near rain on my wedding day scare, I am SOOO glad that we had a tent! Luckily it was blue skies on our wedding day in Feb but the day before our wedding, Maui received the most incredible rain and wind storm they had seen in three years. I cant even imagine having a wedding in that weather and not having a tent, it would have been such a disaster. A tent is so worth the money for peace of mind!!
