Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh

I'm beginning to really dislike wedding planning.

So, our October 2013 wedding is going to be in Pittsburgh, but both of us live in Virginia Beach, VA.  The desperate search for a venue is beginning to make me want to pull my own hair out - my poor mother is the one now running to Pittsburgh on a weekly basis to visit the sites I happen to like, and somehow she keeps managing to forget her camera so that I can SEE the venues.  LOL

Anyone else having venue issues or have any venue suggestions?  We're talking 100ish guests, including the wedding party, and a location we can have both the ceremony and reception (bonus points if it's near a hotel).

Re: I'm beginning to really dislike wedding planning.

  • Do you have a specific price range or style of venue in mind?!

There is a place in Wexford called the Chadwick.  My friend got married there earlier this year.  They had their ceremony and reception there.  It was really nice.  I can't think of any hotels nearby off the top of my head, but I would guess there are some fairly close by.

    Here is their website:

  • What part of the city are you thinking? And there are hotels less than 5 miles away from the Chadwick.
  • What about the Grand Concourse? I think you can do your ceremony there, plus it's so beautiful inside that you won't have to spend much on flowers, or table lines, etc. Or the Lemont too. I'm an OOT bride so I know how you feel! It can be so frustrating at times! Our venue coordinator is bad at responding to emails and calls, so when i find other vendors that are quick to get back to us they get major bonus points! Good luck!

  • I have heard good things about the Marriott near the airport. Also, my friend had her ceremony and reception at Longvue country club (in Penn Hills) last year. It's beautiful! Hotels are not super close, but close enough (half of her guests were OOT).

In my search for a venue I also liked the Mayernik Center in Avonworth and Edgeworth Country Club in Sewickly.

We are having both the ceremony and reception at Succop Conservancy in Butler (off of rt 8). Again, hotels are not super close, but within 10 miles. They have outdoor heaters if it is cold.

I am looking for the same thing you are! I am checking out the Marriott by the airport on Oct 1st for both my ceremony and reception.  I have checked out Longvue but it was too old looking on the inside for me.  Reminded me of the Marie Antionette era.  Why dont you try the Pittsburgh Golf Club.

Well, now we're between the Omni, the Rivers Club, and the LeMont - - but it's been changing every five minutes, so god knows.  I'm going to check out all of your suggestions though - - I hadn't even considered some of them, so thanks so much!!

I did find one thing I like, though.  ;)

  • The Sheraton in Station Square is really nice and you can do both ceremony and reception and it's is a hotel! That's where we're having ours and we have the waterfront rooms so you have a wonderful view of the city.
  • We had our reception at the Marriott near the airport and it was beautiful! We didn't have our ceremony at the hotel but there are options to do so! We worked with Jeannie and were also planning a wedding from outmofmtown! They do everything there for you and make arrangements to meet you while your in town so you didn't have to send your mom :). If you have questions let me know! The ,Arrington was the BEST place to have your wedding!
  • im already starting to dislike the process too!
