Tell Us Tuesday

1.  How old are you?  and
2.  Are you where you thought you would be in life?  Why or why not?

Re: Tell Us Tuesday

  • 1.  How old are you?  Aaaargh, quite the question to start out with early in the morning........OK, I'm 56.

    2.  Are you where you thought you would be in life?  Why or why not? I always wanted to be a Mom, so yes, that part worked out twice........due to failed birth control Wink, before Mr Right came along and I married him last year. I was fortunate that my parents insisted on sending me to good schools including HS. This set me up when my original life plan of being a stay at home Mom didn't work out and I had to support myself, then my kids. After working for 40 years, including my part time job in HS at Big Boy, I still haven't had any time off longer than an 8 wk maternity leave. But I've been extremely fortunate that every time a door closed (layed off 3 times) a window opened and gave me the right opportunity that was better than the job I lost. I'm right where I should be, and that makes me happy.

    2.  Are you where you thought you would be in life?  Why or why not? Well, first of all, I never imagined myself getting married, especially so young. But I'm so amazingly happy and excited, so I ignore what past me used to thing. Also, I had hoped I would be done with college by now, but oh well. I've got an amazing job, and all the time in the world to finish my degree I'll never use.

  • I'm 30. And I guess so? I thought I'd get married right after college and thus have a kid by now, but that hasn't happened -- and I think I'm grateful for it! I also thought I might be living in Washington DC and working in some sort of political/PR firm, but that ALSO hasn't happened, and while I did PR for awhile after college, I got out of it and don't know if I'll go back.

But, the way life has turned out isn't so bad, either :-)

  • Sorry Sue!  I just thought it was necessary to include due to the question :)

I'm 26 and I'm pretty right on track where I thought I would be.  I've graduated college, working full time, etc.  I always though 25 would be a good age to be married at and I was.  Although I also thought 26 would be a great age to have kids and I am so not ready.  Eek the idea actually gives me anxiety.

The only real surprising thing is that I have a cat.  I never thought I would own a cat.

    2. Are you where you thought you would be in life? Why or why not? Not at all. I would never think I would be married so young, if at all. And I thought I would've been graduated by now (or in my last semester/senior year). However, I'm so thankful for all of life's blessings and the twists and turns that became amazing adventures. I wouldn't want it any other way.

    2.  Yes and No.  I thought I would be married by now (will be 27 when I tie the knot).  I am so glad I did not rush into it though!!  I do have a BA and almost have my MEd so in that respect yes.  I NEVER thought it would be in education though.  I never thought I would be living in Yuma AZ either.  My FI and I do not want kids so the fact that we have none is where we both want to be in life :).  Although things have not turned out exactly the way I had thought I am very happy with my life and the wonderful man in it.  I would not change anything!

    2. not, not even close. I had an "ooops" baby at 18, which threw off my plans a bit. But I LOVE where I am right now. An incredible job I love, an amazing 6-years-old-tomorrow son, and a loving husband. I would like to be done with school, but in due time!

Yes and no. Yes in the sense that I have graduated from college and have a job that I love in my field - No in the sense that I really didn't think I would ever get married, it's totally not my thing (or...wasn't). I'm also considering having kids, which I never in a million years thought would be the case (funny how becoming an aunt can change things).

I sort of wish I was a bit further in my career (I was in school for 6 years, so career wise if I had graduated in 4 years I would be much more established), but overall I am very very happy with my life.

  • 32 - I always figured I would get married in my 30s.  Didn't really think about it in my 20s, but I also didn't have the right man ;)  I thought I didn't want kids, but my being with my FI has changed that.  I suppose when you meet the right person you love you want to have a family with them.  Also I told myself when I get married I am keeping my own last name, but guess what I plan on changing it.  I would say my outlook on married life has changed a bit.  Life has had it ups and down, but I am blessed and happy.

    I am 24.

I guess I've never looked TOO far ahead. I didn't expect that I'd be getting married this young. I also didn't expect that I'd be living in Ohio..I thought out of state but I guess I always imagined somewhere more "exotic" lol. I am kind of on track with my career--ideally I'd have a full time job but I have had one and I know that I will have one in the future again.

    2. No not really, but in most cases its a good thing.  Like some of the other girls I never thought I would be getting married or building a house (let alone doing them at the same time).  I always pictured myself in some cool Loft (like the one in Big...lol), in a large or foregin city. But I wouldn't trade what I have now for what I thought I wanted.  I also never thought I would have a Master's degree either.  The only negative one I have is where I work, I had this Idea I would be at a large Design or Architectural Firm designing cool spaces and traveling to cool places for projects.  I hope one day that will happen.

    2. Are you where you thought you would be in life? Why or why not?

Yes and No. I always thought 25 would be a good age to get married, and I will be 25 when I get married.  After 3 years of business school, I really really hated it. Like couldnt stand it enough to even finish. I did a complete 180 and started taking  prerequisites for nursing school. It took a couple years going part time to get my prerequisites done while working full time at the same time.  Right now, I am done, have passed my entrance exams, and am on a waiting list. I probably wont be in until next fall or the fall after. Which sucks, I am also in the I hate my job club right now, but I have to stick it out until I start nursing school. I am fortunate enough that FI has a great job so when I do start, I will not have to work while in school, which is something I have never had the luxury of having. Bottom line: I never thought that I wouldnt be done with school by now.

  • I'm 26.  Growing up, I always thought I'd go to college, get married and have kids (despite hating kids).  That's what you're "supposed" to do, right?  So I went to college, went to grad school and assumed I'd be living in Michigan near family and friends.  Moving out to Seattle was the single best thing I did for myself, so although it was unexpected, it was right. I met H less than a month after I moved here.  I love my job, I love our two doggies, and while we don't see kids in our future, I'm very happy with our little life and happy doggie furkids.  It will be interesting to check in 10 years from now and see how things have changed :)

    2. Yes and no.  I knew by now I'd be where I am with school but I thought I'd originally be moving after the wedding to another state.  Now, I'm staying in MI for at least another 5 years since we are trying to buy a house.  I also was hoping to be making more than I am but that's the economy.

2.I switched my major 2 years into college and now I am 1 year away from graduating with my Bachelor's in Nursing. I never in a million years thought I would be a nurse, half of the women in my family are nurses and it just seemed too boring... little did I know! I will be 23 when I get married which is pretty much what I always planned. I always have said that I wanted to have at least one child by the time I turn 25 and FI feels the same way. I will say that I never imagined I would marry someone I met in highschool, or FI for that matter. We did not get along through most of highschool and even when we first started dating I never saw it going anywhere...now 5 years later I can't imagine being with anyone else!

    2.  Are you where you thought you would be in life?  Why or why not?
Definitely not. I was certain that I would be done with school by now and a few years into my dream career as a teacher. I am still a few years away from graduating and even teetering on the thought of a whole new career. I also thought that I would be married by now. When FI and I get married we will have been together for 5 years. I had hoped to have a baby by now as well. But I am not sad that things aren't how I thought they would be. FI is the love of my life, so it doesn't matter how long we are together before being married I am just happy to have him in my life! As far as school goes, however, I feel a little like a disappointment that it has taken me so long. But who knows, next year I could be a stay-at-home mommy!!
