Where to buy inexpensive wedding cake

Does anybody know where to buy inexpensive wedding cake in the Chicagoland area?  My fiance and I don't want to spend too much money on a wedding cake.  We are looking for a 3 tier cake and we were also thinking of a fake cake and just have the bottom layer a real cake. We went to a few bakeries and a few had a minimum charge and/or minimum cake slices.  Thanks!

Re: Where to buy inexpensive wedding cake

  • We just booked ours with La La Li Bakery in Westmont. The owner Laura gave us the BEST tasting (we tried two other bakers and were very disappointed with dry, flavorless cake) La La Li gave us 9 different cake flavors to try and 9 different fillings. The tasting is done  with mini cupcakes. It was amazing.  Laura is very warm and friendly, and definitely gave us the best price of the three bakeries we tried.

We are getting 3 tier cake- 80 servings, bottom tier banana cake with chocolate mousse, top two tiers are lemon cake with raspberry mousse and cream cheese filling. With delivery and set up came out to 350.00 which is a great price.  Can't recommend enough!

I am looking at using La La Li.  Glad to hear your tasting was so great! I have heard great things about their cakes and have them on my list to schedule a tasting.
  • Baking Institute in Northbrook, IL. Igor was awesome. He asked me about what I wanted  (artsy, no ruffles, no bows nothing bridal) and by the time I finished talking, he sketched my cake! 70-75 ppl for about $300 for 2 flavors and 3 tiers.
I originally was going to go for an assortment of Costco cakes because I didn't care but once I saw the drawing I actually got excited. Costco can't beat that. OMG-- they have huge chocolate covered strawberries too!
