Bistro/Cafe Lights

Hi ladies! I hope the new year is treating you well!

Just wanted to know if anyone has used or is planning on using cafe/bistro lights. I love the way they photograph (over string/Christmas lights) so I really wanted to use them for our Maui wedding...

Please let me know! I've attached a photo as an example...

Re: Bistro/Cafe Lights

  • They look great in photographs, I feel its a bit softer :) Are you going for it?
  • Lyn, I want to use them! I hear they are expensive, though. :( Trying to scope out options. My WC has not been very helpful about it, and to be honest a bit discouraging! I told her I may bring some in if I find them, and she went into the whole, "Well, you'd need staff to come and set that up, blah blah blah..." And I'm thinking, "Well isn't that what you're for? To find the staff to do it?!"

Argh, just been frustrating trying to communicate with her about some things because she discourages doing certain things... *sigh. Not really things I want to hear from a WC!

    I guess that was a mini vent...haha.

  • Diana -

I'd be curious to know who your Nancy negative WC is (PM me please).  I'm still choosing WCs, and in a sense all the rave reviews are just making it harder.  I love the bistro lights, for what it's worth, and they do photograph spectacularly.  I find that most of them are on pretty short strings though.
  • Racholas, I found this website through a Wedding Bee discussion: http://www.hometownevolutioninc.com/String-Lights-and-Bulbs.html. Not too bad on pricing and up to 100ft! :)

    I'll PM you right now!

  • That is common - if you bring your own lights they have to have a certified electrian come and install them so you will be charged for that.  I brought star paper lanterns with me for inside of our tent and I think we paid $12 for each one to be installed.

Why is your coordinator discouraging them?  I have found that if the WC discourages something it's for a reason, perhaps she has worked with them before and they didn't turn out great?

  • AK, she says they're too expensive to rent, so I said if I find some, I may bring them along and she basically shot down that idea going into staffing for putting them up. Just not very willing to help the situation. I feel like she has an idea of wedding set-up and lighting but it all feels cookie-cutter. So, not open to individual visions and ideas...

  • We bought a string of 40 from Kmart and hung them on our Lanai. I love the lighting,  personally I think they would look great
