Direction cards

We are getting married 3.5 hours away from home. All of our guests live within an hour of us. I am just woundering how you would do a directions card?   Would you just use the state as the starting address and then the wedding location as the end? ( everything is going to be in the same place)

Re: Direction cards

  • Our wedding is far from home also. Up a windy road in the mountains near Yosemite. I gave directions to the location from the nearest city on the directions card with a map. On my wedding website I posted the same directions but then also posted directions on how to get to that city from the different places in California that our guests would be coming from.
    Hope this helps :|

  • Ours is far away too, we didn't include direction cards. There are directions on our website, and most people would just use their GPS to find the hotel anyway... But if you are def. doing them I would say give directions from the nearest city, or the highway most will be traveling off of.

  • This caused a major disagreement between my future MIL and me.  We are getting married locally and within an hours drive for most of our family and friends. It is my church I grew up in and an area where my future hubby grew up too. I asked my friends that have been married before me and other friends and got the response of "most people will know where the church is" OR "with todays technology will know how to get directions."  My FMIL feels I should have included direction to the church in the invitations and will not drop the subject. She has even gone as far to say, some of her relatives will not come because they don't know how to get to the church. REALLY?!?! My response back to her was, I guess then we will save some money because they didn't come.
I understand my situtation is different than yours, but if you feel technology won't be able to give the correct directions, than it may be a good idea to include directions in your invites, if not, most people will be able to get on their GPS's, smartphones, or get directions from computers and will be able to make it to the wedding.
    Good Luck!
  • Thank you. My mom is going to make them just using the closets highway to start. I am only doing them because our invite kit has them and the way the invite folds out I think it would look silly with just a blank spot were it is suppoused to go.
    Thanks again :)

  • Not everybody has a GPS system so including directions is a good thing to do. I would provide directions from the nearest highway. Does the venue you are getting married at have directions on their web site you could include that.

  • I agree a great starting point for directions is a highway or freeway.  Ours is off the interstate, so we started there.  For those living in a direction that would not come on the interstate, we just figured they were familar enough with the area to know their alternate route, or look it up.
