Consideration for Dietary Requirements

We have 3 persons invited to our wedding who are vegetarians and 2 that are vegan and 1 person that is gluten free. I want to make sure that no one is left out or hungry.

Apps are not settled but out of our short list of 16 (to be cut down) there are 2 vegetarian and 2 vegan options plus two more of each that we could have the meat/dairy omitted easily on a few so they can enjoy. And 6 are gluten free items.

The Dinner I think we have a good handle on but what do you think of the entree?
The 1st course is easily adapted to vegan, vegetarian & Gluten free
There will be a 2nd soup option that is vegan/vegitarian
The salad is good, no changes needed
Roasted Portabello mushroom cap with a quinoa stuffing in place of the meat entree for vegans and Vegetarians and use the quinoa as the starch side for the gluten free meal

Dessert has me stumped. We're doing a dessert buffet with the cake, mini Italian pastries & dessert shooters
Vegetarians are fine.
Half of the dessert shooters are gluten free
I wasgoing to get gluten free and vegan cupcakes for them but for the vegans would it be inconsiderate to not have any other options?

Re: Consideration for Dietary Requirements

  • It sounds like you're being very accommodating.  I think you're fine!  I think people with dietary considerations are probably so used to not being accommodated at all (which is sad) that they'll probably be pretty happy with your options!

If you're really concerned though, since it's just two people, I might ask the two vegans what they'd like for dessert.  Totally not necessary, but if you're that concerned, it seems like it would be easy enough to ask.

  • What J&K said.. .You're going above and beyond.  Most vegetarians I know bring snacks to weddings "just in case".

My friend's FSIL is having a rice krispie "cake" for her wedding because she can't eat gluten. Could you possibly have rice krispie treats? (Heart-shaped or something to make them cuter?)

ETA: sorry, missed the last sentence! Nvm..

  • I think you have gone above and beyond. You are definitely being very considerate of your guests and their diets! I think cupcakes would be fine - especially because that would probably be the most cost effective and easiest to coordinate

Rice krispie treats are not vegetarian or vegan, because of the marshmellow stuff that hols it together. Marshmellows are made with gelatin, which is made from pigs.
  • You really going above and beyond what could be expected of a hostess.

Relax, you've done a great job!

Hence why I said "ETA: sorry, missed your last sentence. Nvm"

  • You are definitely being accomidating...I am vegan and I pretty much just eat before I go to events because people don't usually think to have vegan options.
What you have listed should be fine.

  • I'm vegetarian and your menu sounds delicious!  I'm kind of used to wedding food not being that great, (the vegetarian option is usually a pasta loaded with cheese) and you've really given this some consideration and it will very appreciated.

Our caterer took care of the vegan and gluten-free options, except for the gluten-free desserts.  I baked gluten-free cupcakes from a mix (we were doing cupcakes anyway instead of a cake) and kept them in the kitchen so my two friends could go grab their own desserts without worrying about anyone accidentally taking their cupcakes.
  • To accommodate some of our dietary restricted guests, we offered fruit kabobs during the appetizer and dessert portions of the program.  There are also a few fruit dips that can accommodate many restricted diets.

You have been extremely considerate and thoughtful as a host and friend.
  • I agree with all PP, you have gone above and beyond. I'm GF and I've also gotten used to not having much to eat at events like this. If only everyone would be as considerate as you!
  • I like the idea of fruit at dessert - this would probably go over big with non vegans as well!
  • I'm vegetarian, leaning vegan, and your menu sounds great! (I agree with PPs that some fruit for dessert would be nice, if you can swing it!)
  • Another vegetarian chiming in - that sounds great. One of my friends married a vegan and they had a chicken option and a vegan option for their reception dinner. Their vegan option was similar to what you're offering - 3 of the 4 people at our table ordered it and we all liked it!
