Reasonably Priced Wedding Cake?

Does anyone have a good recomendation for a reasonably priced cake? We tried Kondietermiester (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) and were meh about the cake, and we really loved The Icing on the Cake, but it's more than we want to spend on cake (we were quoted $835 for 200 people).

Re: Reasonably Priced Wedding Cake?

  • We loved kondeitermeister and chose them! Another amazing cake that is affordable is through Tripoli bakery in Lawrence/N. Andover. VERY moist!
  • I've heard really good things about Montilio's in Brockton. A friend of mine is using them but I'm not sure how much the cake is. A friend of my FI's family used Coffee Time bake shop in Salem Ma and I'm pretty sure they were reasonable and the people who went to the wedding highly recommended them to us.

  • We are using cake for occassions out of Danvers.  They have been really nice to work with.  We are doing cupcakes and they were very reasonably priced compared to other cupcakes in the area.

  • We are using Montillio's. We have not had our tasting yet but they are the bakers that come with our wedding package. The previously mentioned Cakes For Occasions in Danvers also makes delicious cakes.

  • We are using Dessert Works in Dedham. The tasting was great and the staff was very helpful!
  • A couple of the girls have used Sandy Cove Cakes. The owner does cakes out of her home, so the cost is way less than a traditional bakery.
  • Our cake for 125 people came to just under $300 including delivery

    From http://www.dessertworks.net/
We are getting a two tier cake (double layer bottom, so it has more height than width)
    a round for kitchen cutting
and a flourless chocolate cake for all of our gluten free friends (approx 4-6 but the cake will feed more)

I went with the tall two layer cake cause adding the third layer adds $100-150 more.

And I am going with a textured buttercream instead of fancy fondont or rolled chocolate.

I have been watching this post since I'm also looking for a cake.  I called Sandy Cove, but an FYI to other brides out there she only delivers locally (near Scituate). My reception is in Cambridge so that wasn't an option unfortunately.

That's a bummer! :( Thanks for the info, though.
  • The same happened to me witha  couple of places I called. I talked to Kondeter Mietster again though, and they are going to tweak one of the flavors for me, and do a smaller cake and an extra sheet cake that no one will see instead of a 4 tiered cake. It brought down the price by about $200. I have another tasting there on Tuesday so wish us luck!

  • I agree about konditor meister....it was not very good cake at all and I am NOT picky about the taste of cake, just very bland and floury...

We are getting ours at Cakes for Occasions...they charge anywhere from $3-$5 a slice depending on your fillings and such. They taste soooo yummy and the people that assist you for the tasting are really great. Good luck!

  • I'm using the sleepy baker. She does cakes out of her home so it's a bit more reasonable than the storefront places. She is just starting out too (I think she's been in the business part time for a while and just started full time). She is doing a smaller cake for me and my fi to cut and then she will have larger sheet cakes in the same look and flavor in the back.
