Wedding Dress?

I was wondering if it is too soon to go wedding dress shopping?

Re: Wedding Dress?

  • Not at all! A few of us already have our dresses bought.  Some of us are waiting a little longer before looking.  It's never too early. :)

  • I don't think it is too early to shop!  It is good to get ideas of what you like and what you don't like.  Who knows you may find THE dress!  It'll be fun!  Just make sure not to take a whole bunch of people.  Everyone has an opinion and sometimes your opinion is forgotten and then you're stuck with something you didn't want in the first place!  =)

    Have a great time!
  • I was a little worried about this too.  Does anyone feel like the styles that will be available now won't be current next July?
I just made my appointment at Kleinfeld for the end of June, and I was a little nervous.  I'm trying to focus on "excitement" instead!

I started dress shopping in January just so that I could get an idea of what looks best on my body, and because I knew I would not be able to make a decision on "the dress" in 1 day. Since then I have picked out 6 dresses, and have narrowed down to 2 that I really love. I have narrowed these choices down within 6 months and with each appointment I took no more than 1 person each time. I started out with my best friend because I knew she would be more vocal and get me to try on styles that I would never think of. The 2nd, I took my mother who helped me narrow my choices from 6 to 2. And just this past weekend I took my FMIL and FSIL and tried on what could definitely be THE DRESS!. However, I am not making the final decision until July when all of my family will be in town, and from there I will let everyone see it, and give me their final opinions.
So, my answer is NO! you are right on schedule. IT is not too early. If you're anything like me I suggest you get started NOW! Laughing

  • I just bought my dress this past Saturday, but I found it at the beginning of April. I just had to find shoes before ordering the dress. And I found my dress the first and only day that I went shopping, so keep an open mind!!

  • I bought my dress over my April vacation.  I brought my mother and grandmother.  I went over two days and tried on approximately 20 dresses, but kept coming back to the same one.  I realized I wouldn't find another dress that had everything I loved about it, so I decided to buy it (even though I thought I would wait until summer).  If you find it, buy it!  I figured I needed to order it by the end of summer anyway to feel like I was on schedule.

I already have mine. I bought it in January.

As for Canary, I'm not really worried about it being out of style... I mean I highly doubt there will be a huge drastic change in fashion in just one year. So no worries. As for time, I agree. More time, the better. Anyway it's reccomended 6-9 months before, and 6 in some cases is coming in kinda close. I had only 2 weeks to shop and buy mine and I would have looved to have had months to make up my mind and look where I pleased. So start now, it might make it easier on you. Good luck!

  • not at all! my dress is hanging in my closet!! :)

  • I just found and bought my dress at the end of april. Will be going to pick it up this week actually:) I asked the same thing before I went.

  • I bought my dress last summer. Although I semi-wish I had waited until this spring, I like it and it still fits. As long as you think you'll really love it next year and will still be able to fit it, I'd say start shopping! :) Have fun, and as PPs said, don't take too many opinionated people with you or you're asking for trouble. I looked online to see what I thought I'd like, then tried on different styles with my MOH, FI, and two sisters there. When I chose about three styles, I took the mothers and my oldest sister to help decide. It was pretty fun!

  • Unless you plan on losing a lot of weight within the next 6 months, i would suggest to go ahead and start looking.

I have mine and it feels good to have it checked off my to-do-list? Now I only have 59 more things to do. LOL!!

  • Thanks for the advice! My weight will probably only change a few lbs (hopefully less!!) by next year. I plan on staying fit and toned so I'm not worried about not fitting. I just don't want to end up changing my mind 3 months later, but I have my heart set on a style so I don't think that will be an issue either. I am planning on going this Saturday. I will let everyone know how it goes!
  • Definately let us know how it goes!!!!! I'm excited for you :)
I'm waiting a bit, because things are hectic right now, once i'm off for the summer i'll take my time and start looking! but i'm jealous of all you ladies that already have yours
  • I bought mine almost a year ago. It's never too early...unless you plan on getting pregnant or your weight fluctuating.
  • I got mine last week. I'm so excited! I think it's great to get it done early (or at least start narrowing down on the style you want) because it does help set the tone for the rest of your wedding. My dress is very flowy and romantic, so now I know that the rest of my wedding should complement that style :)

  • I found my dress!! It was the very first one I tried on and I knew it was "the one". I tried on several others after and I didn't get the same feeling. I'm excited!
