*Sniff Sniff*

So just a funny story for you ladies.

Last night I was with my parents, and my dad was rummaging through the fridge trying to find something to munch on. He ended up pulling out a jar of apple sauce, neither my father nor my mother knew how long that apple sauce has been in the fridge.

He opened the jar and sniffed it. He then said "It doesn't smell bad, so it must be good!" He put some in a bow and sniffed it again. I looked at him funny and said "doesn't that defeat the purpose of smelling it in the first place?". He said he was just "double checking"...

Amazingly he does this a lot, a while ago, I caught him sniffing a shirt just to see "if it was clean enough to wear again".

Please tell me I am not the only girl here with a weird dad?

Re: *Sniff Sniff*

  • I cut open a bell pepper with mold one time and my dad told me just to cut the mold off and eat the rest. One time we had some whipped cream from Thanksgiving in the fridge and he thought it was homemade butter, so he made a grilled cheese with sugared whip cream and didn't even figure it out until talking to my sister about it later.
I swear my dad has an iron stomach.
  • We ALWAYS use a sniff test when eating leftovers that may have been in the fridge for more than two or three days. My stomach can't handle things the way my husbands stomach does. He's a bottomless pit that could eat anything, while if I have even a little bit of greasy food, I'm hurting afterwards.

There's nothing wrong with a sniff test, or weird either. If something doesn't smell right, don't eat it.

I will say that DH laughs at me when I sniff some my hoodies or jackets. I wear them out to the barn occasionally and while they may not get dirty, they may smell funny and I'd really prefer to not go to the movies or shopping smelling like a sweaty horse. ;o)

  • I live by the sniff test for both food and clothing. In college, the sniff test made it so I had to do a lot less laundry. Well, that and Febreeze.

  • Haahaa.  My boyfriend does the sniff test, and then eats it even when the sniff test fails.  I don't know how he doesn't get food poisoning all the time, based on some of the leftovers I've seen him eat!
  • My dad swears he hates peanut butter but if you bake peanut butter cookies and don't tell him what they are he'll eat the whole batch.
