Getting married this summer?

So last night Fiance and I desided we want to get married this summer. We reliaze we are prettty late to the game with planning and such but I dont mind. I am at a lost of where to look for a venue and where to start. Also I thought maybe by booking late we might be able to get a deal since some places just want to fill in the dates.
Anyway! I guess im joining you guys!

Re: Getting married this summer?

  • A great resource I've found is weddingwire.com - you can search for venues, or photographers, or florist by location. They'll tell you the price range, and show you reviews by other happy (or unhappy) couples.

If you have specific vendors you really want to use, you might consider talking to them and seeing what dates they have left available, then picking the date with the most open vendors as your wedding date.

    Good luck!
  • Congratulations on your engagement, and on choosing your time.

I would say that with a wedding that close, you might have to make some concessions and compromises, as planning a wedding for such a popular time frame in such a short time is likely to mean that a lot of things are going to be booked, and the chances that venues have a date that they are "just looking to fill" are slim.

Venues - many "popular" venues book at least a year if not 2 years in advance, so you may have more choice if you choose your date on an "off" day (like a Thursday, maybe Friday or Sunday - chances are Saturdays for 2012 are all booked) or go with a less conventional place.

Dresses - designer dresses typically take 6 months to come in from the designer once you order, so if you are having an early Summer wedding, you might have to settle for a sample/off-the-rack dress or David's Bridal dress or other less-time option and have it altered or get your order in ASAP and pay extra to rush it, or who knows what.

Other vendors - same deal - I know DJae Melee , for example, is a popular DJ/highly recommended on these boards, and is fully booked for 2012 already.  You may have to settle on 2nd or 3rd choice vendors because 1st choice ones may be fully booked.

I'm sure any bride can pull off a wedding in a few months with some serious organization, careful planning, and attention to details, but it definitely won't be easy.  Good luck, hopefully we can help!

  • Good luck, I hope you are able to pull it off! Please let us know how your planning goes!
  • best of luck! i'm sure it will all work out as long as you start planning/looking at places right away. Any specific types of places you're looking for, or do you pretty much have an idea of what's around here since you've worked in the industry? These boards are really helpful, so just ask!

if all else fails... you could always elope! ;)

  • There are actually some great locations throughout CT that are offering great deals for 2012. I am a wedding planner and have been meeting up with different venues that have been hit hard by the economy. Many are up to and willing to discuss different prices.
