Save money or get what you want?

I'm having a really hard time deciding on flowers for the bridesmaids.  I am doing them all myself to save money and I really wanted to stay around $600 total.  I am torn between two bridesmaids bouquets.  The one that I LOVE would be around $200 more and put me over budget when I'm already $100 over.  I'm trying to tell myself that it's such a small detail and no one will notice them very much anyway, but I know that when I look back at pictures I will be disappointed for not having what I really wanted.

Here is the one I love (some of you may remember my previous post about picking between this one and another).

And here is the one (on the right) that I like and would be settling for.

  • I still prefer the first one, although the second one is very pretty. What kind of flowers are in your bouquet? WIll their be a huge difference between them?

  • I think the one on the right is perfectly lovely. It's a matter of asking yourself, "Is this worth it?" And you say you don't want to look back at photos and regret it, but you may look at the photos and not even remember that they weren't your first choice, so keep that in mind. If you do decide to go for it, then awesome, but if I had a back-up as nice as yours, I might not, but that's just my opinion.

I like them both actually.  Do you think that instead of doing all one color for the bouquet, you could get some different color purples?  I would make them a little bit more dymanic.

  • I actually really like the simple 1 tone second option. But that's just me. I think it's very pretty.

PS I have a peacock theme as well!
  • well, all my flowers (bouquets, bouts, corsages and centre peices) cost $420 total...so I'm a fan of saving money.

the first picture is really lovley but I personally wouldn't over spend for something that will die in a day.  what do you love about the first bouquet? is it the different shades of purple? the variety of flowers? all the layers?  maybe you can add some of those elements into the second bouquet choice without going over budget.

  • Were doing the flowers ourselves, $260 total.

    I'm all about saving money.

Unrelated, but oh my God, I misread and thought you were saying your bouquet cost $420 and my eyes bugged out of my head like crazy, ha, I was like, "WHAT IS A $420 bouquet?! DIAMONDS AND GOLD?!?!"

  • I am all for saving money (which is why we went with peacock feather fans instead of flowers) but if you think you will look back at your pictures and wish you had something different then go for the splurge if you can afford it.  Both bouquets are gorgeous and will look beautiful in the pictures.

  • I really like the option on the right.  I don't think I would go overbudget for that one.  :)

  • I agree with the others. I wouldn't go over budget either. Our flowers cost us about $250.

hahaha!!!  well, my bouqet is made of brooches so it has added up quite a bit...but no where near $420!
  • I like the look of the second bouquet better.  I don't think flowers are something worth going over-budget on.  They'll die in a day and that second bouquet is still really pretty.  If you don't like the look of the monotony, maybe you could add a few white roses in to make it pop or use a couple of the flowers from the first one, without doing the entire thing.
  • You'll be happier you saved the money because they will still look great with your second choice.  I'm finding it easier to let go of things as the date approaches tho...thats just me...

  • Thanks for all the input ladies.  The reason it's so hard for me is because I do wedding flowers on the side, so that aspect of the wedding is extremely important to me.  I know that I will remember the flowers, even years down the line.  I may not remember the food, the music, or the cake, but I will remember the flowers! haha!

I also need to remember that we were originally budgeting for 125 people and now have less then 90 coming, so I do have some wiggle room in our budget.  I guess with it being so close to the wedding and actually paying off vendors, it's huritng seeing all this money go out of our bank account and I just want to save where we can.

So, I guess I am going to go for what I want so that I don't have any regrets. Money mouth

  • You go girl! I was about to say that the ones you want are stunning, but the purple solid bouquet is gorgeous too...but it seems you've already made  your decision! Get what you want! I finally talked FI into a videographer, so I can echo the sentiments! :)
