Photography Time Line

We're getting married in Maui at an outdoor venue and taking pictures with the optimal lighting behind us is key... We really don't want to miss cocktail hour with family photo's and bridal party photo's, is there any way to do that before the ceremony? Our photog says it will only take 15 min for the fam pics and 15 min for the bridal party pics, but that's a half hour of cocktail reception we'd be missing.... We're not doing a "first look" so the groom won't see me till I walk down the aisle... He will be arriving at the ceremony site seperately from me, as the maids and moms will be getting ready at the wedding location...

Any suggestions of what to do with the pics/photographer so as not to miss too much of the cocktail receiption?

  • Personally I think that 30 minutes for bridal + family photos is just right.  How about the photos of just you and your groom?  You will need time for these as well.  I think that seeing each other before the ceremony for the first look is best of 2 worlds, you will have a enough time for photos as well as you can enjoy your cocktail hour fully.  Let you photographer arrange the first look for you.

  • You can take as many pictures before the ceremony as possible that don't have you and your FI together (you with your girls, him with the guys, you with your parents, him with his, etc.).

Personally, I would want the bride and groom photos to be the best ones with "optimal lighting"--so I would get the formals done in the quickest way possible.

<div>As a photographer, I absolutely agree. I wish more couples would do a first look. It breaks my heart to be inside during dinner watching the best light of the day (and a potentially gorgeous sunset) disappear outside while my bride and groom are eating or dancing.</div>
