I just saw your little degree ticker... How'd you get that one?

Also what are you getting your master's in?  I'm an undergrad Special Ed major and plan to go back and get my masters at some point so I'm curious of how grad school work.

  • I got that one from another website. Here's the link. http://daisypath.com/Graduation.php/

I'm getting my master's in speech language pathology. I'm really excited about it, but at the same time I didn't have much choice on the matter. Speech majors won't be completely certified with only an undergrad degree so I have to do the two years to get my master's, but it'll be worth it in the end. :) As far as grad school goes, it's much more work and a lot more intensive than undergrad from what everyone has been telling me. I'm starting this fall and some girls I know are in the program already and they've been preparing me for how much work I'm going to have to do. But, the worst part (at least for me) was the process of appyling. I had to take the GRE and get a certain score, get letters of recommendation, send transcipts, and write an essay. It was just stressful because every school I applied to wanted something slightly different. I'm just glad that process is over. lol

Anyway, that's great that you plan to go back to get your master's in special ed! :) I have a lot of friends who just graduated with their undergrad in special ed and they're planning on going back to get their master's too! It's a wonderful field to be in :)

  • Oh speech language pathologist is exciting!  That's what my twin wants to get her grad degree in.  I am so dreading the application process for whatever grad degree I choose.  We will be working with some of the same types of children.

I'm super excited to be done in less than a year!  I'm just terrified of the job market.  eep!

  • Oh I know what you mean about the job market! It's terrifying. FI is a math teacher and he just ended up getting lucky that he got an actual teaching position. Originally he started as a tutor for a cyber school and halfway through the school year a math position opened and they offered him the job. We were really lucky. Pennsylvania is terrible right now for job openings for teachers. I have several friends who have only been able to substitute. It makes me so nervous!

  • I know the feeling.  I think it is like that no matter where you go.  They actually encourage undergrad students to not apply for substitute positions because there are so many people with degrees that don't have jobs that are substitutes.  Since I am a sped major I am hoping it won't be like that.  I am just worried because I have to find a job in the area because FI cannot move right now.
