Renew vows, not anniversary

I really wanted to have a fall wedding, but my husband and I went on a weekend trip to Tennessee and got married while we were there.  We had planned on having a reception for the family when we got home, but it just never seemed to come together. It's now been almost 3 years since we got married.  I was talking with my sister-in-law the other day about renewing our vows in a ceremony on Halloween so everyone could be there.  She said that it's just not right to renew vows on a day other than our anniversary.  Is this true?  Our anniversary is March 8th. Please let me know what y'all think. Thanks. Laughing

Re: Renew vows, not anniversary

  • Honestly, I don't know why people get all twisted up about a vow renewal.  I'm planning mine for October 2012, our 5 year anniversary.  We'll have a ceremony.  We'll have a wedding cake.  I may or may not wear a white dress (I may host an elegant Halloween reception in which case I'll wear a long black gown).  I'll hire a photographer.  In other words, I'll do what I dang well please because last time I checked I'm an adult, it's a free country, and I can throw any kind of party I want to.  You can't confuse a vow renewal with a wedding ceremony but other than that, I don't feel anyone else has the right to tell you how to live your life.  Celebrate however you want to.  Life is short so eat some wedding cake!
