Wow, congrats!  The Piazza will be beautiful--please come back and share your pics!

As for advice, the eating one is good--even if it's just a bite.

Relax as much as you can that morning with your mom, girls, etc. before things get crazy--that morning of my wedding is one of my fondest memories.

Allow plenty of time to get ready -- more than you think you will need.

Have a MOH or someone in charge while you are getting hair and makeup done--you are NOT to be interrupted.  And no cell phone or texting either.

Go to the bathroom before you put your dress on.

Don't sweat the small stuff -- napkins folded incorrectly? Pictures on the wrong table?  No one cares, don't waste time worrying about things that don't matter in the end.

Take 5 minutes after the ceremony to be alone with your husband.

Eat your dinner--I can't believe how many brides don't do this.  Your guests won't think less of you if you actually take 10 minutes and have some steak.

Thank your guests for coming--in person, in the programs, during a toast, somewhere.

Have your photographer get at least one full length picture of you alone in your dress.

Enjoy every precious minute because it will all be over before you know it.

    Have a blast!
  • Stephie, I have to ask...why no interruptions or cell during hair and makeup? Is it a relaxation thing? (...because I can totally see that, just curious what your reasoning is.)

#1 reason, to me, would be that it slows down the process.  Also, if you're getting airbrushed make up, I would imagine that there's a little bit of time needed for drying.
  • I am hanging Stephie's advice on the fridge this weekend LOL

This is a serious suggestion.  :)

My MOH took my phone away from me the day of, and I was so happy.

The reason is that it is your wedding day, and you should not be dealing with anything except getting gorgeous, eating some food, and gettin' murried.  Granted, no one called me about anything anyway, but it's just not something the bride needs to deal with.

Also, I second Stephie's advice about 5 minutes with your hubs.  I didn't even think about it, but the church coordinator had us go in the bride's room and then I heard her say, "Let's give them some time alone," and I just LOST IT.  I hadn't cried the whole day, even saying our vows, and I finally got a moment to just take it all in and it was beautiful.

And the best advice I can give is to just let everything go.  At the end of the day it won't matter if the flowers weren't right or the lighting guy brought the wrong color or even if the DJ sucked.  What will matter is that you married the love of your life.

Good luck!  And judging by your username, I think we have the same b-day!

  • LOL Wendi! Re: getting ready: you are getting ready for the most important day of your life and at the same time flowers are being delivered, vendors are arriving, people want to see you, etc. My MUA warned me it would happen and she was right. Getting ready is stressful so it's great to have a designated person to deal with distractions.

Funny story (and maybe TMI but I am comfortable with you all so whatever. Plus It's hilarious):
When I went for my one fitting with Becky, the one where I met her and my dress fit so she didn't have to do anything to my dress (but she worked a miracle on my MOH), I got all the way to Irving and realized I was going commando. I had to run into CVS to get a 3-pack of white granny panties. The three pack, sans one pair, is in my back seat still.

Stephie/Amanda: you guys are genius. I seriously hadn't even thought about this, but no distractions and no technology both sound amazing. This right here is why I love theknot. :)

  • Enjoy the day DON'T worry about the little things and while you may not want to have your phone, put somebody else in charge of it. I got three very important calls that morning about wedding stuff, but I didn't have a planner so it was important for me to deal with them.

I hope you have the BEST day!

Wendi would win the game "What's in your back seat right now".

While we're on the subject of underpants, if you have sensitive skin, opt against panties with cute little rhinestones on them.  One of my bridesmaids got me an adorable pair of lacy little things with the words "I DO" in rhinestones right on the hip.  Halfway through the day I realized my hip was really itchy.  Turns out it was the dadgum stones (or maybe the glue used to affix them?  All I know is I wanted to scratch in a fairly unladylike way).
