registry stalk!

So, my MOH sent out invites to my shower within the past day or two.  All I know is that the shower is going to be on June 30. . . . . . . I see some serious registry stalking in my future.  I'm really bad about it.  It's going to be like Christmas when I try to figure out my gifts once they are wrapped under the tree.  I'm such a kid about that!

Re: registry stalk!

  • If you do BBB, you can log on and see the tally of items purchased, but not which specific ones. That's the compromise I made with myself. I have had pretty good self control so far...

On BBB you CAN see which items have been purchased -- it shows the tally at the top ("You want 70 items, you are getting 25 items!") and if you scroll down you can see which items have been filled ("wants 2, receiving 0").  You can't see who bought what though.

We did a lot of stalking, mostly because we listed an APO (military post office) as our shipping address, and needed to know when stuff had been bought so we knew when we had to go check for packages (it's a 40 minute drive each way, so we only check if we're expecting something -- and if something sits there for too long it gets sent back).

  • I also enjoy stalking my registry, for the same reason as Avion. Even though the items are all shipped to my fiance's home, we have had issues in the past with items sent by UPS (for some reason this only happens with UPS - never with Fed-Ex) getting "lost in transit" or marked as delivered when, in fact, they weren't. So, I like to know when we should be expecting something.

Question- how do you know they weren't delivered to the person that bought it for you, and they're bringing it to the shower, etc.?  I can see that the item was purchased, but I don't know if it was shipped/bought at the store or what.  The most I can see is on my Macy's registry, I can see who bought it, but I don't know where it was purchased (online or in the store) or if they had it shipped to them or shipped to me.
  • You can call the store and verify whether or not the item was shipped to your address if it's been a few weeks and you haven't received it.

I think cwaggoner meant that if OP didn't want to know exactly what she was getting, she could just check out the tally at the top.

I've been majorly stalking this week, my only shower is on Sunday!

Awesome, thanks sbelle!  Makes sense now that I think about it.
  • no problem :)
  • I chose not to have gifts shipped to me.... it's too much of a hassle.  I see some registry stalking in my future.... but I really don't want to.  I don't know what I'll do.  Do you ladies get disappointed when you see something you really wanted not being purchased?  I don't expect much, if anything at all, but if I stalk I feel I might go overboard. • Speaking of.... I just noticed on my BBB registry that someone purchased the Wilton Armetale Flutes and Pearls salad set I had been hoping for!!!

I don't get upset if I see something I was hoping for not being purchased because I truly am so thankful that we're getting anything at all! Even if we just receive one item, it's still one more than we had!

I stalked my registries with a passion all the way up until the day before my shower. Trust me, you will still be surprised because some people will go off registry, some will forget to give the paper to the cashier to scan & it can also take some time for the computer to update. I felt NO shame in looking!
  • I've enjoyed stalking my registries...its almost like inverse gift giving...I know what I'm getting, but the big surprise is who picked which items off the registry...I think its almost more fun that way!

  • I think I will be just doing a small registry (really hoping for cash instead!!), but I don't think I could bring myself to look at a registry to see if things were bought.  What fun is it?  Might as well go to Bed Bath and Beyond with the guest and just point to the item for them to buy.
